When we appreciate something, we make it known. We say “I love you.” We leave reviews and rave about products and services. We recognize members of our workforce for what they contribute to the team. Cities give keys to deserving citizens. Award shows celebrate entertainers. Sometimes it’s nothing more than a gesture, a nod, a handshake, an embrace. All of it, in one form or another, translates to two simple words: Thank you. I’m not going to undersell what I want to say here, nor am I going to try to acknowledge all the individuals within this group. Some aren’t here anymore, and with those I still keep in touch with, I have the privilege of giving them that appreciation one-on-one. But to this group—to BoS—I simply want to say thank you and believe me when I type this: those words don’t feel like enough. There have been hours, days, months and even stretches of years when this group has allowed me to momentarily forget whatever life had placed on my shoulders. It has reminded me that I exist beyond my troubles and that very little is truly beyond overcoming. I’m a Pisces, so naturally I see something magical in that. I crave authentic, emotional bonds, and somehow I get a piece of that while engaging with all of you. It allows me to share parts of myself here. Hence this post. From the education, the wildly different styles of reviews, the deals and shopping lists, SOTDs, daily inspirations, aesthetic conversations about the vessels housing our beloved fragrances, and even simply seeing new members arrive—this group inspires me. It inspires me to be the “big brother”—based solely on tenure — who is always happy to chat, share something I’ve learned, or offer advice when asked. I believe being an example through actions and words, demonstrating a quality of friendship that doesn’t waver according to who is standing in front of you. There are a thousand topics people can fight about elsewhere. But we’re here. I’m here. I come here to step away from the divisiveness and tribal mentality that can consume other platforms and groups and simply enjoy being among people enthusiastic about fragrance. And over the last couple of years, I’ve needed that more than I realized. Beginning around the middle of 2024, life stopped handing me full plates and apparently decided full pallets were more appropriate. After taking a cruise that year, I noticed something strange during that week away: what had become part of my daily dopamine intake—fragrance posts, conversations, reviews—was voluntarily unavailable. Around that time I also stopped saying, “Fragrance is Life.”
