Recovery teaches us how to face pain we once tried to escape. But losing someone close to you can bring a kind of pain that words can’t fully explain. Grief can make you angry. It can make you question God, question yourself, and even question whether all the work you’ve done in recovery is worth it. But grief doesn’t mean you’re going backward. It means you loved someone. Some days you’ll remember them and smile. Other days, the memories may break you down. Give yourself permission to feel all of it. You don’t have to numb the pain to survive it. For those of us in recovery, the temptation can be to escape grief the way we escaped everything else. But this time, we choose something different. We stay. We feel. We reach out. We pray. We keep going. Losing someone may forever be part of your story, but it doesn’t have to become the end of yours. Honor them by continuing to live. Honor yourself by staying clean. And when the pain gets heavy, remember—you don’t have to carry it alone. 🖤🙏
