Difficult Patient Satisfaction Help!
How do you guys deal with difficult patients?
I had a 14-year-old basketball player come in the other day with back pain.
He rated it a 7/10 when bending over and could only get down to his knees.
50 minutes later, he was able to straight-leg toe touch with his fist touching the floor.
He could walk without pain. He could do high knees, butt kicks, and active warm-ups without pain.
Objectively, we made a HUGE change.
But he was still saying he “felt it.”
So I asked him what he felt.
“A stretch.”
😂
His dad was thrilled with the results.
But I could tell the athlete wasn’t.
And honestly, these are some of the patients I find the most difficult.
When the objective findings improve dramatically, but the patient still isn’t satisfied because they can feel something, it can be frustrating.
How do you guys handle these situations?
How do you get the patient to understand the difference between “I feel something” and “I’m hurt”?
