Hello from ChangeEight
Welcome to ChangeEight. My name is Matt Geddie. I'm an occupational therapist and researcher who spent 30+ years studying how people function, adapt, and find meaning across major life transitions. Retirement is one of the biggest transitions most people will ever face and almost nobody prepares for the identity side of it. We plan the finances. We rarely plan the rest. That's what this community is for. ChangeEight is built around 8 Dimensions of Wellness which is a framework I use to help people look at retirement not just as the end of a career, but as the beginning of something that actually needs to be designed. The 8 dimensions are: Emotional, Financial, Social, Occupational, Physical, Intellectual, Environmental, and Spiritual. Each one matters. Most people are strong in 2 or 3 and quietly struggling in the others, many times without realizing it. Here's what you'll find in this community: — Weekly posts on each dimension with practical insights — Resources, assessments, and tools you can actually use — A space to ask honest questions without judgment — Q&A sessions with me directly I'm glad you're here. Drop a comment and tell me: where are you in your retirement journey right now? — Matt Geddie, OTR, PhD

Welcome to the Weekly Rhythm — Here's How This Works
One of the things that disappears fast in retirement is structured rhythm. The kind that used to be built into your week automatically, whether you wanted it or not. This community is going to give some of that back intentionally. Starting this week, we're running two recurring posts every week: Monday Morning — a single reflection question to start your week with purpose rather than just filling time. You'll be asked to name one area of your wellness that deserves real attention. Not a goal. Not a resolution. Just honest awareness and a direction. Friday — a space to share what actually happened. Wins, struggles, and whatever your retirement journey taught you this week. No curated highlight reels. Just real people doing the real work of building a retirement worth having. You don't have to participate every week. But the more honestly you show up, the more you'll get out of this. Retirement is not a destination you arrive at and then coast. It's a season of life that requires just as much intentionality as any other, maybe more. This rhythm is designed to support that. See you Monday.

Who faded, and Who stayed? Good morning. Nobody warns you about the friendships in retirement. Some 'work' ones fade quietly once the shared hallway is gone. There's no falling out, the building just disappeared and took the friendship with it. A few others may get deeper than they ever were. This week: who's one person you've stayed close to since you retired... or one you thought you would, and didn't? Either half counts. A name (make it up if you want) and a few words is a complete answer. If the honest answer is that your list got shorter than you expected, say that. It's more common than anyone admits. Not retired yet? Answer it forward. Who do you think will still be there? I'll go first. Pam. We used to have lunch 3-4 times a week and connect on work and bigger life issues/ideas. I miss those days!" Lte me know in the comments how it worked or will work for you. Best, Matt

Good Monday. Every Monday I ask one small question here. No homework, no wrong answers, and a one-line reply is a complete answer. This week: what's one thing on your calendar that you're actually looking forward to? Not something you have to do. Not an appointment or an errand. One thing you'd be a little disappointed to miss. And if the honest answer is nothing, say nothing. That's a real answer, it's more common than people admit, and noticing it is worth more than pretending otherwise. I'll go first: I am meeting good friends for dinner on. Looking forward to catching up with them. Let us know what's on your mind! Matt
