What if existing SaaS became a starting point for what you want to build, rather than a fixed experience you have to accept?
The video breaks this into three approaches:
- Connect existing systems through a translation layer.
- Analyze how a program works and attempt to rebuild it.
- Adapt a specific mechanic into a different experience.
The gaming examples make this easy to imagine. You like the movement in one game and the world in another. You want to bring them together.
Now apply that same thinking to your day job.
What if you could combine the parts of your tools that actually help you, without inheriting every menu, dashboard, and unnecessary step?
That’s the possibility I’m interested in. Not “clone everything.” Not “software companies are finished.” More freedom to design around the outcome you need.
A caveat: I wouldn’t take the video’s “99% of any software” claim at face value. A benchmark result isn’t proof that any commercial application can be seamlessly rebuilt. The specific model names and demos also need verification.
But as a creative direction, there’s plenty here to think about.
Less accepting the interface you’re given. More imagining the experience you actually want.
If you could combine two games, or two tools you use at work, what would you bring together?
