What I learned Training Euro Club Team in Charlotte & Live Community Call 10/3
🔴 LIVE COMMUNITY ZOOM CALL — SATURDAY 10/3 @ 12 PM EST Join us for our next community call as we unpack this & I want to hear from you! Zoom Link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85240434725 🏀 Today's post: 'WHAT I LEARNED TRAINING A CLUB TEAM IN CHARLOTTE & DIVINE APPOINTMENT WITH NBA SHARP SHOOTER I just returned from an incredible weekend in Charlotte working with a basketball academy (Hoops Krew) that is building around a European club model. Taking a group of 8th grade boys for 1 year through a complete immersion of training in all areas: competitive games, training, weight room, nutrition, setting goals, devotionals, identity, confidence, film, etc. And we didn't just train on court for their basketball skills. We trained the whole player: mind, body, spirit, soul. My role is to come out there quarterly over the next year & really focus on development of their "identity, confidence & spiritually." So for this first visit this is what we focused on: 🏀 On-court player development 🧠 Confidence workshops 📝 Player Development Plans (PDPs) 🙏 Prayer walk 📖 The Origins of Basketball story 👨‍👩‍👧 Parent development session One of the highlights of the weekend was also an unexpected encounter with former 10 year NBA sharpshooter Anthony Morrow, who is one of the parents involved with the academy. It was a powerful 'divine appointment' as I call. I spoke to all the parents at a dinner. After I had an opportunity to spend time with Anthony and his wife, speak into them and pray over them. After hearing the Origins of Basketball story and talking afterward, Anthony told me: "It struck many chords in the heart & mind." That conversation stayed with me along with some other powerful conversations I had with other parents in the program. Here are 4 big takeaways I'm bringing home & want to share with you: 1️⃣ TRAIN THE IDENTITY — NOT JUST THE SKILLSET We spend thousands of hours teaching players how to shoot, dribble, pass, defend and get stronger.

👋 Welcome to Point Guard Transformation! Start Here
First, thank you for joining! I'm Coach Phillip Morrison — former College All-American & professional point guard, and many of you may know me as Basketball Missionary. My goal with this community is simple: 🏀 Help you handle pressure, play fearless & become the player your coach TRUSTS. We're going to develop more than basketball skills. We're going to work on your confidence, decision-making, basketball IQ, leadership, identity and ability to become a true floor general. But don't get overwhelmed by everything inside the community. 🚀 START WITH THESE 3 THINGS: 1️⃣ INTRODUCE YOURSELF + YOUR GOAL 👋 Introduce yourself in the comments below OR create your own post. Tell us: 🏀 Your name + grade (if player) 📍 Where you're from 🐐 Favorite point guard (Mine is Steve Nash!) 🎯 Your #1 goal over the next 90 days Parents and coaches — introduce yourself too if you're here to learn Encourage other players. Ask questions. Share wins. Let us know when you're struggling. 2️⃣ START THE POINT GUARD TRANSFORMATION 🏀 Go to the Classroom and begin: MONTH 1: HANDLING DEFENSIVE PRESSURE This is where I want EVERY new player to start. We're going to help you become more confident when defenders: 🔥 Pick you up full court 🔥 Crowd or Trap you 🔥 Speed you up 🔥 Get physical 🔥 Force you into uncomfortable situations The goal isn't simply to improve your handle. It's to learn how to HANDLE PRESSURE. We'll combine skill development, confidence, pace, decision-making and game understanding so you can stop panicking and start playing with control. Start with Lesson 1 and follow the program in order. 3️⃣ CHECK THE CALENDAR & UPCOMING LIVE CALLS OR REPLAYS 📅 Go to the Calendar tab and see what's coming up. You'll find: 🎥 Live Community Calls 🧠 Confidence & Leadership Workshops 🎬 Masterclasses & Film Breakdowns 🏀 Point Guard Classroom Sessions 🎤 Special Guests + Q&A Come LIVE whenever possible. Watch the Replays if you miss. Ask questions. Participate. Let me coach you. If you can't make a call, we'll have replays available inside the Classroom.

5 THINGS I LEARNED TRAINING WITH AN NBA CHAMPION THIS WEEK
This week I've been in Maui working the Just Hoop Maui basketball camp alongside a good friend, Cody, who also played professionally overseas with me in the Philippines. Cody invited me to train with Boston Celtics starting guard Derrick White — an NBA Champion and Team USA Olympic gold medalist. We trained together, played golf, shared meals, and I got to observe how he approaches his craft up close. I've played professionally myself and have been around high-level basketball for a long time, but I'm always a student. And there were 5 things from this week that I really want our young players to learn. 1️⃣ ELITE PLAYERS ATTACK THEIR WEAKNESSES One of Derrick's specific focuses right now is becoming better with his left hand. And I mean SPECIFIC. We emphasized: 🏀 Dribbling left 🏀 Passing left 🏀 Driving left 🏀 Finishing around the basket left Even as an NBA Champion, he's still asking: "Where can I get better?" A lot of young players spend most of their workouts doing the things they're already comfortable doing. It feels good. You look good. You make shots. But transformation happens when you're willing to intentionally attack the areas where you're NOT comfortable. Don't hide your weaknesses in workouts. Expose them. Then develop them. 2️⃣ HOLD YOURSELF TO A STANDARD This might have impressed me the most. Derrick didn't simply complete drills. He had a standard for completing them. If he was supposed to make a certain number, execute something correctly or finish a drill a certain way, he wasn't quitting until he did it. And sometimes that meant doing it while TIRED. That's where the mental side comes in. Can you stay locked in after you've missed? Can you execute when your legs are tired? Can you maintain your standard when nobody would blame you for stopping? There's a difference between: "I finished the workout." and "I completed the workout to the standard." 3️⃣ PAY ATTENTION TO THE DETAILS At the highest levels, everything matters. Footwork. Angles.
