What happens in the Advocating for their Rights lab?
If you're a single mom/parent of a student of color (like ME), you already know the reality: a system that was never built with our children in mind. BUT, here's what they didn't count on - YOU! This Lab is our space. A SAFE space. A BRAVE space. A SOLUTION space. here we turn frustration into action, fear into knowledge, and isolation into community. Here's what we do together: Know Our Rights - Learn the laws policies. and strategies that protect our children. Share and Support - REAL stories, REAL struggles, REAL Wins! Your experience can help someone else. GET PRACTICAL TOOLS - Navigate school meetings and educational challenges (504's, IEPs, Behavior Plans, meeting strategies), communication scripts, and more. CELEBRATE PROGRESS - Every small WIN matters! Together, we build momentum and change outcomes. You belong here, (from one single melanin mama to another). You are NO Longer alone! You are not powerless! Your children DO matter! Introduce Yourself! Tell us who you are, who you advocate for, and one win (BIG or small) you are proud of. Let's get to know each other and build this safe-space support village. OUR VOICES. OUR CHILDREN. OUR FUTURE. We Advocate! We Educate! we Elevate!

Love Letter to Yourself
Dear Single Mama... It's Finally Time to Put Your Oxygen Mask on First. "Because your children don't need a superhero... they need a healthy one." There is a woman reading this right now... She's exhausted. Not "I need a nap" exhausted. The kind of exhausted that settles deep into your bones. The kind that no amount of sleep seems to fix. She wakes up tired... goes to bed tired... and spends every moment in between taking care of everyone else. She is the appointment scheduler. The homework helper. The therapist. The nurse. The chauffeur. The cook. The housekeeper. The behavior specialist. The advocate. The financial planner. The emergency contact. The miracle worker. And somehow... She's expected to smile through all of it. If that's you... This is your love letter. Somewhere Along the Way... You stopped existing as a woman... ...and became only "Mom." Especially if you're raising a neurodivergent child. Your entire world revolves around therapy appointments... IEP meetings... 504 Plans... speech therapy... occupational therapy... doctor visits... insurance phone calls... medication refills... meltdowns... sensory overload... and trying to explain to people why your child isn't being "bad." You became an expert at meeting everyone else's needs... while quietly abandoning your own. You stopped buying things for yourself. Stopped celebrating yourself. Stopped dreaming. Stopped resting. Stopped laughing. Stopped dancing. Stopped living. Because somewhere inside... you began believing... Good mothers sacrifice everything. But Somewhere... Someone lied to us. They told us self-care was selfish. That asking for help meant weakness. That resting meant laziness. That putting ourselves first made us bad mothers. None of it is true. In fact... it's the exact opposite. Every Time You Fly... The flight attendants say something fascinating. It's so common... most people don't even hear it anymore. "In the event of an emergency... place your own oxygen mask on first before assisting others."

Love Letter to Yourself
Help a Single Mama Out
Help a Single Mama Out...Help a single mama out, For she carries burdens, heavy with doubt. See her, truly see her worth, In her, a universe is given birth. Affirm her strength, her endless grace, Recognize the power in her face. Perceive her value, deep and true, Acknowledge all the love she imbues. Advocate for dreams she holds so tight, Be the candle in her darkest night. Help her give birth to visions grand, With a steady heart and an open hand. Assist her in this season’s test, Offer support, help her find rest. Be the pillar when she feels weak, In your strength, let her courage peek. Accept her for who she is today, Not judged by the past, in any way. Encourage her to grow, to find her light, But never press her to fit the fight. Assure her she’s phenomenal still, In her heart, the spirit of goodwill. Remind her often, she may forget, Her essence, her power, her quiet threat. For in adversity, she might lose sight, Of the woman she is, full of might. Stand by her, a beacon, a friend, Help her remember, on you she can depend. Help a single mama out, dear friend, In her journey, on you she can depend. See her, love her, lift her high, Together, let her dreams touch the sky.
