🎓 Wonder how we can help your child with their GCSE English?
Sometimes it’s difficult to know exactly what support your child needs, or which type of tuition would be the right fit. That’s why I’m opening up GCSE English Onboarding Calls for parents who would like to have an informal chat about their child and the support available through NL Tutoring. During the call, we can: 📚 Talk about where your child is currently working and what they would like to achieve 🎯 Discuss any particular areas they are struggling with in AQA GCSE English Language or Literature 👩‍🏫 Look at how our qualified teachers and experienced GCSE examiners can support them 💻 Take a look around our online Skool community and show you exactly how everything works 📈 Discuss the different levels of support available and what might be the best fit for your child There’s absolutely no obligation to join anything. It’s simply an opportunity to ask questions, see what we offer and find out whether we could help your child reach their potential in GCSE English. Whether your child is trying to secure that all important Grade 4/5 or aiming towards the higher grades, we can talk about where they are now and what could help them move forward. 👇 Interested in having a chat? Popalong to one of our onboarding calls using the link in the calendar. They happen on a Friday at 5pm with one happening right now so feel free to pop along. Alternatively, leave me a comment/message and I’ll be happy to help. See you soon, Tash

🎓 Ask The Examiner – Today's Recap
Thank you to everyone who joined our Ask the GCSE English Examiner session! I had two great questions today whicha re relevant to anyone in Year 10 or 11 sitting their mocks/exams shortly. 1) The first thing we focused on was AQA English Literature lookingspecifically at how marks are awarded when answering a Shakespeare question. 📝 How are the marks awarded? For a Shakespeare essay, students are assessed across: AO1 – 12 marks A clear, developed response to the question, supported by well-chosen references and quotations from the text. AO2 – 12 marks Analysis of Shakespeare’s methods: including language, structure and form and, importantly, the effects and ideas created by those choices. AO3 – 6 marks Understanding the relationship between the play and its context. There are also 4 additional marks for SPaG on the Shakespeare question. 2) The second thing we discussed was embedding context into written responses Context shouldn't feel like a separate history lesson bolted onto the end of a paragraph. Instead of writing: ❌ “In Jacobean England, people believed in the Divine Right of Kings.” Try connecting that knowledge directly to Shakespeare's purpose: ✅ “By presenting Macbeth's decision to murder his divinely appointed king as the beginning of his downfall, Shakespeare may reinforce Jacobean beliefs surrounding the Divine Right of Kings and warn his audience about the consequences of disrupting God's established order.” The difference? Context is being used to develop the interpretation of the text rather than simply demonstrate historical knowledge. A useful reminder for students: 📖 WHAT is Shakespeare presenting? 🔍 HOW does he present it? 🎭 WHY might he present it this way? That final WHY is often a natural opportunity to weave relevant contextual understanding into the analysis. We’ll be back again next week for another FREE Ask the Examiner session. 👇 If there’s something you'd like me to discuss next time, leave your question in the comments!
