TESTIMONY TIMEEEE! 🔥
You guysssss!
At the start of the fast, God told me that for me personally, it wasn't going to be about stewardship, but specifically breaking a scarcity mindset.
I didn't necessarily grow up in poverty, but I wouldn't say it was middle class either. My sister and I would describe our childhood as struggling, with a few key fun times. Growing up in the 2000s meant there was always something fun to do, if you know, you know.
To give you an idea, for breakfast we'd have coffee, bread, lots of crêpes, and eggs maybe one or two times a week; for lunch we'd have noodles or Beefaroni (canned pasta meals); and for dinner we'd have real food.
The only time my mom would cook was on Sundays, and then we would try to stretch it for the rest of the week.
Now that I'm 26, I can see that it was tough for my mom, but somehow we made it work.
That being said, I never had an idea of what healthy financial stewardship looked like. I mean, here and there I would hear my mom tell us to budget, but I never saw that example, and quite frankly, she never really had time — and I don't blame her. She was just trying to make sure my sister and I were alive.
So the first time I fasted money, before it became a book and now this challenge, the Lord revealed to me how much trauma and scarcity I had in my heart, and that it reflected in my spending habits. I found comfort in food, shopping, and eating out, because that's what I would see.
I found money to be the source of my happiness and the representation of safety. So the Lord pruned me. He took everything away and got me to a point where it was me and Him, and for the first time, I recognized Him as my source.
He moved me to a new land with no money, no family, and gave me everything I needed. That's when I understood: He is everything. I met Him as Provider, Healer, Friend, but most importantly, Father. He taught me how to become a steward of my finances, and this fast is the product of that crushing.
But even after, I didn't know that scarcity mindset still continued in spite of these new healthy habits.
I would often catch myself saying, "Can I buy this?" "This is too expensive." "I don't know if I can afford it."
I didn't even know this was scarcity or limitation until I was introduced to my mentor in London, and she told me that my language needed to change.
Fast forward to August 1, 2026, the beginning of this fast: my rent was due, and after spending months traveling and investing in my business, I found myself at a spot where I was rebuilding again, starting from scratch.
When rent was due, I didn't know what was going to happen, but I felt peace still.
Until August 4, when I received a knock at my door and got served an EVICTION NOTICE, two minutes before streaming Day 4, which was VISION VS FANTASY.
I had two minutes to swallow my panic.
I had two minutes to pray and ask God to help me calm my nerves, because I was terrified.
I said, God, how is this possible? This NEVERRR happened to me before.
Since I've been here, You've been providing.
Even when I was in London and Ethiopia, the Lord was providing for me to pay my rent in Dallas, London, and Ethiopia at the same time.
He never allowed me to sublet, and He never allowed me to ask for help from anyone, because He wants all the glory to go to Him.
I felt my faith almost crumble.
The funny thing is, that morning God brought me to Isaiah 43:19, "Behold, I am doing a new thing; do you not perceive it?" He had already given me multiple insights in preparation, so I was enjoying the whole day until that happened — but it was a test. Was I going to let the circumstance crumble my faith and speak doubt, or was I going to keep praising, trusting, praying, and hoping in God?
After crying a bit (of course), He gave me the strength to still pray and praise Him and to still show gratitude in spite of my circumstances. He led me to Isaiah 40:31: “Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.”
And the following day, as I was cleaning and listening to worship music, all of a sudden He reminded me that I had money.
I had money in an investment savings account.
Not only did I have money, but it was free.
I invested in January and got a large enough return by July, so a large portion of my rent was MONEY THAT WORKED FOR ME.
God allowed me to forget, just like the cupbearer did with Joseph, to test my faith and make sure that I don't have any scarcity in my heart, and to fully understand that my source is truly God.
So I went down to the reception, praying that God will soften her heart. The lady that served me was the same one that gave me the notice. I explained to her the situation and showed her proof of my deposit. She was supposed to file my eviction on Friday. But after looking at my record of never having a late payment, she gave me an extension until Tuesday, which she never does!
Not only that, but she opened up to me and told me that she’s late on her mortgage every single month. Her mortgage is due on the 15th and she pays it on the 20th and that she has a hard time with that. That was my moment to share the fruit of the spirit, so I tried to lighten the conversation.
But I walked away praying that her mortgage lender would also soften his heart, because it wasn’t just about me.
I am so blessed to even be able to share the fact that I forgot that I had money. Before, I would spend every single dollar to zero! But the Lord graced me, and He showed me what you're learning through this fast.
My anchor scripture for this season is Isaiah 43:19 because through that, He spoke to me, telling me that the way He moved in the past was not going to be the way He moved this time. He was still going to be faithful, but I would need a higher measure of faith, because BIG blessings require BIGGER faith.
No, I'm not saying that following God absolves you of hard times, but I am a living testimony that when you obey God, you WILL LACK NOTHING, and He gives you the grace to overcome every single situation, no matter how hard.
So I share this to say: God is your source. God is your provision. Stick to this fast, because God's breath is on this fast. It is only Day 6. Stay encouraged and keep pushing, because God is doing a new thing.
