You guysssss! At the start of the fast, God told me that for me personally, it wasn't going to be about stewardship, but specifically breaking a scarcity mindset. I didn't necessarily grow up in poverty, but I wouldn't say it was middle class either. My sister and I would describe our childhood as struggling, with a few key fun times. Growing up in the 2000s meant there was always something fun to do, if you know, you know. To give you an idea, for breakfast we'd have coffee, bread, lots of crêpes, and eggs maybe one or two times a week; for lunch we'd have noodles or Beefaroni (canned pasta meals); and for dinner we'd have real food. The only time my mom would cook was on Sundays, and then we would try to stretch it for the rest of the week. Now that I'm 26, I can see that it was tough for my mom, but somehow we made it work. That being said, I never had an idea of what healthy financial stewardship looked like. I mean, here and there I would hear my mom tell us to budget, but I never saw that example, and quite frankly, she never really had time — and I don't blame her. She was just trying to make sure my sister and I were alive. So the first time I fasted money, before it became a book and now this challenge, the Lord revealed to me how much trauma and scarcity I had in my heart, and that it reflected in my spending habits. I found comfort in food, shopping, and eating out, because that's what I would see. I found money to be the source of my happiness and the representation of safety. So the Lord pruned me. He took everything away and got me to a point where it was me and Him, and for the first time, I recognized Him as my source. He moved me to a new land with no money, no family, and gave me everything I needed. That's when I understood: He is everything. I met Him as Provider, Healer, Friend, but most importantly, Father. He taught me how to become a steward of my finances, and this fast is the product of that crushing. But even after, I didn't know that scarcity mindset still continued in spite of these new healthy habits.
