How Does a Man Measure His Motives?
Motive: “the internal needs, desires, or impulses that give purpose, direction, and energy to their behavior.” Measuring is a tricky thing. What measuring standard does he choose? Measuring standards are important. The measuring standard we choose tells us what we are looking for—it clarifies the expectation we bring to the hunt for the answer we seek. Is it character—our own, others', God’s? Approval and affirmation of self, others, and those we are submitted to? Then comes the truth—the answer the standard we chose reveals. Here is the answer. A man must measure his motives with the standard of absolute truth, that which is eternal and not temporal. Only one standard will give accurate, true, and enduring measurement. Imitate the one whose image you choose to bear. Imitate Christ. Keep on. b/fs
