Coffee doesn’t ruin fat loss.
But it can absolutely make fat loss feel way harder than it needs to be.
Most people don’t struggle because they’re overeating at meals. They struggle because they’re leaking calories through the small stuff they don’t track.
Common “calorie leaks”
• coffee add ons
• oils and cooking sprays
• dressings and sauces
• a splash of creamer
• a drizzle of honey
• bites while cooking
• liquid calories that don’t create fullness
None of those things are “bad.” But if you’re not accounting for them, they can quietly erase your deficit.
Here’s the real life math.
1 pound of fat is about 3,500 calories.
So if you unknowingly add 500 calories per day, you just added:
→ 500 x 7 = 3,500 calories per week
That’s the difference between:
✓ losing about 1 lb that week
or
✗ losing nothing
Realistic example (this happens all the time)
• coffee “treat” or extras 200 calories (likely more)
• oil while cooking 200 calories
• sauce or dressing 150 calories
Total
→ 550 calories per day
→ 550 x 7 = 3,850 calories per week
Even if your macros are “perfect,” that alone can stall an entire week of progress.
Then the spiral starts
• you assume the plan isn’t working
• you cut calories harder
• hunger gets louder
• cravings get worse
• you swing back into the all-or-nothing loop
This is why the boring stuff matters.
Not because you need to be perfect. Because you need your calories to be predictable.
Coffee framework (start using this today)
✓ default to grande ALWAYS
✓ ask for no classic syrup
✓ keep flavor at 1 to 2 pumps
✓ choose one creamy option (almond milk or a splash of half & half)
✓ sweeten with stevia or splenda if needed
✓ stir before you drink (syrup sits at the bottom)
I uploaded the full Macro Friendly Coffee Guide in the Classroom. It includes Starbucks and Dutch Bros orders, the build your own formula, and my at home 40g protein coffee setup.
Now let’s make this interactive.
