The Bristol Business Show, today at the Brunel SS Great Britain. It was a mega day, a long day, 340 miles driven, 9 hours behind the wheel in crap weather, but it was worth it. A brilliant day surrounded by some amazing people at a very cool venue, great to see some familiar faces and some new ones, great conversations and great connections made. You might've seen the news about serious PHP security vulnerabilities doing the rounds. A few companies even took their sites offline over it. Emergency patches have been released, but here's the thing — this doesn't automatically mean you've been hacked or that you need to panic. What it does mean is you need to check one thing: has your hosting provider actually applied the fix? If you look after your own hosting, or pay someone else to, here's what to do: ✅ Ring your host and ask whether the latest PHP security patches have been applied to your server. Don't assume. Ask. ✅ Ask specifically whether the fix is properly installed — or whether they're just using temporary protective measures. Those aren't the same thing. Not even close. ✅ Don't fall into the trap of thinking updating WordPress, your themes, or your plugins sorts this. It won't. It's the underlying PHP software that needs attention here. You can literally copy and send this to your host: "Please confirm whether my website is protected against the PHP vulnerabilities CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619, whether the security patches have been installed, and whether I need to take any action." If you're running your own server rather than using managed hosting — don't sit there assuming someone else has handled it. That assumption is how things go wrong. No need to lose your mind over this. But it's absolutely worth a five-minute check rather than finding out the hard way. Not sure what your host's response actually means?
