RECAP: THE ROOM TALKED FIRST. THEN WE PRODUCED LIKE A DJ.
Family, tonight was different on purpose. No lecture until I heard you. Welcome to Janet, first night in the room, and to everybody who joined this week. Taurean, you never miss a Tuesday, and tonight showed why. Twenty-eight of us now. The room grows one invite at a time. What happened: You told me what you came for. Taurean is a songwriter and he has been getting better every single week in this room, out loud, for as long as I have been teaching here. Janet DJs and wants to learn production. Zarena kept us honest. I wrote all of it down. That is October. I played you a record before the chords and the vocal production went on it, because music is a living thing and you should see it alive. I told you what Damon Thomas said about it: strip the chords, let the vocals and the drums breathe. That is a legend giving notes to a producer with twenty years in, and I took every one. Student mentality. The intern never graduates. We talked about what makes a record DJ-friendly, and the answer is not magic. BPM first. Then key. Then a special thing you can name in one sentence. Then an intro a DJ can mix into. If a DJ cannot play it, the room never hears it. Thick skin. Collaboration. Celebrate the small wins, in here, out loud. Homework is pinned: one song, four answers, a thirty-second blend. Bring it Tuesday, October 6, 5 PM Pacific, kosine.co/class. Production month starts there. Two more things. Every member: bring one person this month. And I am working on guest chairs, DJs who move rooms, so the people you want to meet come to you. Slides attached. Notes are in the Classroom. Dr. Kosine

STUDY HALL TONIGHT, 5 PM PT: PRODUCTION MONTH OPENS. I AM ON A STAGE WITH THE MAYOR OF CHICAGO.
Family, class runs tonight at 5 PM Pacific and I am not on the Zoom at the top of the hour. I am in Chicago, on stage at Chemistry with the Mayor of Chicago as the special guest. Doors open when you ask. That is the lesson tonight, and I am doing the homework in front of you. The room runs itself. Protocol when I am not there: meet in the SKOOL VIDEO ROOM, not Zoom. 5 PM Pacific. Run of show, Study Hall edition: 1. Testimony first. Homework out loud: your record's BPM, what it blends with, the one special thing, the intro. Play the thirty-second blends. Regulars first, first-timers second. 2. Taurean holds the aux. One record each, say why. 3. The production-month map, read it together: Oct 13 drums and BPM. Oct 20 chords and key. Oct 27 vocal production and the intro. Nov 3 the blend and the DJ test. One record built in public over four Tuesdays. Build yours alongside. I will drop in from the venue if I can get a signal between sets. Homework for Oct 13: your record with the drums and the BPM locked. Nothing else yet. Bring the number. Every member, one person this month. The room grows one invite at a time. The intern never graduates. Dr. Kosine
