i listened to an ai cold call a real plumber
the thing that got me wasnt that it called, its that it held the conversation. it rang a plumber in melbourne in an australian voice, opened with a proper cold call line, asked for 30 seconds, and when the guy started asking questions it answered every one of them. never broke character, never got confused, and it was steering the whole thing toward booking a meeting. he actually said yeah we can do that. the recording is at the start of this if you want to judge it yourself: https://youtu.be/CnqQ7-iFEXA

the reason your cold emails get ignored
spent a while on this and its simpler than i thought. almost nobody personalises cold email because doing it properly takes longer than the email is worth. so everyone merges in a business name and calls it personalised, and every recipient can tell instantly. heres the bit that changed for me. the info you need for a real opening line is already public. a business's google maps listing has their reviews, and reviews tell you what theyre proud of, what theyre struggling with, and half the time the owners name is sitting in the review text. that is enough to write a genuine first line. one i saw opened with "your 218 reviews plus a quick thought" and referenced what recent reviewers actually said. full build if you want it: https://youtu.be/CnqQ7-iFEXA

someone built an ai that cold calls leads for them
watched this earlier and the opening is an actual recording of the ai ringing a plumber in melbourne. it books the meeting itself. its three agents. one scrapes businesses off google maps with their reviews and the owners name, one writes an email per lead using those reviews (subject line was literally "your 218 reviews plus a quick thought"), and the third one calls them. he says the whole thing runs for about 30 a month. apify, claude, n8n, supabase, vapi, twilio. https://youtu.be/CnqQ7-iFEXA

Can I ask a 10-second favor? ⭐
Hey everyone, I'm Yusuf, co-founder at Vendo (YC S26). Berkeley honors grad at 19, Stanford MS, and now building open-source software that lets companies agentify their products: embedded agents your customers use to automate work, build views, and connect their tools. We're at 412 stars and I'm trying to push past 500 so more builders find it. If you have a GitHub account, this takes 10 seconds: open https://github.com/runvendo/vendo and hit the Star button in the top right. That's it. Live product if you want to poke at it: vendo.run Happy to answer anything about the stack, agents, or YC. And I'll return the favor, drop your repo below and I'll star it too. 🙏
