Extending Your Range 🎯🏀
Want to shoot deeper? Don’t just shoot from deeper.
Get stronger. Then shoot while you’re tired.
One of the best ways to challenge your range is to lift first — then immediately get up shots.
Build your chest, back, shoulders, and overall upper-body strength, then take that fatigue straight into your shooting session.
Why?
Long-range shooting requires you to generate and transfer force efficiently through your entire body. When you’re fatigued, that becomes harder. Your mechanics can change, your release can slow down, and your accuracy can drop.
That’s exactly why I like training this way.
Lift → get fatigued → shoot.
You’re teaching your body to find a more efficient way to create power when you don’t have fresh legs and a fresh upper body.
You can also experiment with a heavier basketball during controlled shooting drills to challenge your strength and force production — then return to a regulation ball and focus on translating that feeling into your normal shot.
And yes, this is the type of work you see from elite shooters like Steph Curry and Damian Lillard: strength, power, and shooting are all part of the same equation.
But remember: the goal isn’t to be tired just for the sake of being tired.
The goal is to become a better shooter when you’re tired.
So next time you train:
🏋️ Lift
🏀 Get straight into your shooting
🎯 Start close and rebuild your mechanics
📍 Gradually work your way out
🔥 Finish with game-speed shots from deep
Your range isn’t just about your arms.
It’s about how efficiently you can create and transfer force.
Build the strength.
Train the fatigue.
Extend your range.
