I personally get extra energy from my peps, they make me feel good. However, I have hear a couple times people have experienced a “meh” feeling. From a metabolic practitioner, the "blah feeling" and low energy on GLP-1 is soo common, we actually call it anhedonia, when you lose your drive for most things you used to enjoy I think the problem is most people just want to push through it when it clearly affects your weight loss too, and some of my clients end up not exercising/getting all those healthy habits they'll need to eventually get off these meds. The specific kind of flatness that comes from GLP-1 is happening because of the dopamine downregulation. Because GLP-1s are designed to lower your food rewards, these molecules bind to your "dopamine senders" and lower the volume on overall joy that you receive for anything. Recent research is pretty clear on this, which is why semaglutide is now being studied for addiction, same pathway. And yes, it does affect everyone, but some people feel it less than the others, if you're feeling any of these: 1) You lost your "want" to do things 2) You find yourself procrastinating often 3) It became harder to stay focused and engaged 4) You don't feel motivated to exercise 5) Your energy levels became less stable 6) The exhaustion isn't fixed by sleep It's probably the dopamine pathway and not depression in the regular sense. Which is a really important distinction because antidepressants don't fix this, the SSRI route works on serotonin and the issue here is dopamine. Flat dopamine = no reward signal = nothing feels worth it. Even when objectively your life is going well. And the frustrating part is most doctors aren't trained to look for this with GLP-1 patients, they default to depression screening which misses the actual mechanism. So, the symptom gets labeled wrong and treated wrong. In my experience, what really helps are things that don't try to force your brain into making more dopamine, but those that make you feel the joy that is already there.
