I have had a member ask me about how the position of a card changes the meaning in a reading. Here is a very simple example using a 3 card reading, looking (left to right) at past - present - future answer to a question In the first example the position of The Tower card indicates there were some dramatic changes in the querents past. In the present position the Seven of Wands indicates the person is still struggling to get others to agree to his/her way of accomplishing the task at hand. In the future position the Two of Cups sees the struggle ending in a mutual and agreeable partnership Now in the second example it is almost a reverse beginning and final outcome. What was once a good partnership now sees a time when the involved parties are struggling with the "how to's" of getting things accomplished. The end result? The whole thing falls apart, resulting in what's going to be some major changes So when you are doing a reading it clearly matters where a card shows up in a reading. The same card can have different meanings

In Tarot, If the Major Arcana are the big life lessons and archetypes, then the Minor Arcana are how those lessons show up in day to day living There are 4 suits in the Minors, with 14 cards in each, starting with the Ace, on through to 10, and then the Page, Knight, Queen, King. Each suit is tied to an element, an area of life, an "energy" Wands = sparks of energy. Ideas, inspiration, ambition, what motivates you to get up and go. Cups = concerns of the heart. Love, friendship, dreams, psychic impressions, how you feel and how you connect. Swords = the mind such as logic, truth, conflict, boundaries, and the stories we tell ourselves. Pentacles = the physical world. Health, finances, career skills, manifestation, what you build and keep The numbers meanings are the same for each suits: • Aces: New beginning, pure potential of that element • 2-3: Early growth and planning • 4-6: Stability, challenge, harmony • 7-9: Tests, perseverance, near-completion • 10: Completion, culmination of that suit • Page: Curious beginner, message • Knight: Action and pursuit • Queen: Mastery inwardly, nurturing that element • King: Mastery outwardly, leading with that element During a reading look at which suits dominate the spread. Lots of Cups? It's an emotional reading. Lots of Swords and Wands but no Pentacles? Lots of ideas and talk, but not much grounding yet.
