process vs outcome
Hello all,
I watched coach Kevin's "The Mental Game of Pétanque" YouTube video, and I must admit I'm a product of a "100% outcome driven" training process. The result is that I can have an awful feeling about my release or the way the boule sits in my hand, and still shoot carreaux. On the contrary, sometimes I feel everything happening naturally and without effort, but I can end up 40cm long or 15cm off to the side of the boule I'm aiming at. And all of this can happen within a single game.
Bottom line: I have a very hard time sticking to a given "technique" or "feeling," and my gesture, even if it may look the same from the outside, often feels very different every time I play.
Side note: I've noticed that sometimes, pointing a few boules can "anchor" my technique and give me back a smoothness I had lost. Obviously, that's hard to do within a game where my job is to shoot.
I'd be curious to hear how you feel about this yourselves, and how you deal with it if/when it happens to you.
