G doux vs G dur
Salut! Just like the letter C, G has two different sounds in French — and today you're learning exactly when to use each one.

Le G doux — soft G, like the "zh" sound in "measure"
ge → geler, gérer / gi → gilet, givrer / gy → gym, gymnase
Le G dur — hard G, like the "g" in "go"
gu → guitare, bague / g → garder, gris, goulot, gauche, glisser, gonfler
The rule mirrors the C: G goes soft before e, i, and y — and stays hard everywhere else. The u in gu is silent and just there to keep the G hard before e or i.
