This relates to & his recent question about the hair in his Marilyn portrait. I mentioned how adding dark shading next to light areas, can create an edge & actually make light areas look brighter. (Check his portrait post for my full advice).
I'd like to point you here to something people don't always pay much attention to - the background.
Look at the ? box in the top left.
I'd like you to notice how I used light against dark & dark against light, as a way to bring contrast to that area & make that block appear to pop within the design.
Contrast is key!
