Using AI Doesn't Make the Work Less Yours.
There's something entrepreneurs tell me quietly, usually after we've been talking a while.
They say using AI feels like cheating. They used it to write the email. They used it to structure the offer. They used it to clean up the proposal.
And then they felt weird about it.
Like the work didn't count anymore.
I understand it. Most of us built our identity around effort.
If it was hard, it was real. If it took hours, it mattered. If we did it alone, we earned it.
But here's the uncomfortable truth: nobody is handing out medals for the hours.
Your customer doesn't know how long that email took to write. They know whether it landed. Your team doesn't know if you drafted the plan yourself. They know whether it's clear.
The market pays for outcomes. It never asked about your process.
When you hired your first assistant, was that cheating? When you stopped doing your own books, was that cheating?
You didn't outsource your judgment. You outsourced the things that were eating the time your judgment needed.
AI is that same move. It's just faster and cheaper than it has ever been.
The taste is still yours. The call on whether it's good enough to send is still yours. The relationship with the customer is still yours.
That was always the actual work.
Here's the part that should bother you: while you're feeling guilty about the shortcut, someone with half your experience is taking it and shipping four times as much.
They're not more talented than you.
They just stopped confusing effort with value.
Question: What's one thing you're still doing the long way, because doing it the fast way would feel like you didn't earn it?
