Yesterday in Big Heart Club, we checked in with our Feeling Soup and noticed all the different feelings we’re carrying around Back To School. We then each created an image showing everyone’s Feeling Soup and talked about how we can all be experiencing something different. ** When your child shares a worry with you, you can ask: What do you think this worry needs? and then give them some options: 1) Practical Support (some worries are actually solvable!) 2) Just to be heard/maybe have a hug 3) Feeling Flip (something active) Then, yesterday, we played “What If It All Works Out?” and started imagining our greatest year yet - shifting our attention from what might go wrong to what could go right. (This isn't about pretending worries don't exist or telling ourselves that everything will always be perfect!!) There is actually some interesting science behind this kind of practice: when we repeatedly imagine a future possibility, our brains can begin to build stronger mental pathways around that possibility. Visualization can also help us shift our attention away from constantly scanning for problems and toward noticing opportunities, choices, and things we can influence. In other words, we're giving the brain something new to look for. You can continue the conversation at home by asking: “What if it all works out? What would your greatest year yet look like?” We also came up with some questions to ask to make new friends! Our next session has been moved to MONDAY, so it will be the evening right before school starts, at least in Canada. I will be coming in from San Diego! Can't wait to see you then!!! xxoo
