Adulting with Cannabis........from NORML 08/19/2026
More than 1 in 5 older adults have consumed cannabis during the past year, according to federal survey data compiled by the University of Michigan. According to its 2026 annual report, nearly 22 percent of Americans between the ages of 55 and 65 used cannabis within the previous 12 months. That’s the highest percentage ever reported by the survey. Four percent of older respondents also said that they have consumed products derived from hemp. Fifteen percent of older adults say that they consumed a cannabis product within the past 30 days. The survey’s findings are consistent with those from AARP and others reporting rising rates of cannabis use among older adults and seniors. Commenting on the findings, NORML Deputy Director Paul Armentano said: “It is not surprising that a growing percentage of adults consider cannabis to be a viable option in their later years. Many older adults struggle with pain, anxiety, sleep disturbances and other conditions that can be effectively mitigated by cannabis. Many older adults are also aware of the litany of serious adverse side-effects associated with available prescription drugs, like opioids or sleep aids, and they perceive medical cannabis to be a viable and potentially safer alternative.” Separate survey data published in the Journal of Primary Care & Community Health determined that most older adults hold positive perceptions about cannabis, and many studies show that marijuana products are typically associated with quality of life improvements and reduced prescription drug use among seniors.

Are you a Cannabis Nurse?
We are a community of like minded people, and we have been supporting this movement from its beginnings.....A cannabis nurse is a registered nurse or advanced practice nurse who specializes in the clinical application, safety, and science of botanical cannabis and cannabinoid therapeutics. Officially recognized as a specialty nursing practice by the American Nurses Association (ANA) in 2023, this role bridges the gap between traditional Western medicine, endocannabinoid science, and patient-centered, holistic care. NJ Medical Home Grow for our disabled Community, nothing changes when nothing changes.
Joining from Hackensack NJ, I look forward to meeting more of our like-minded community to help meet the needs of our medically disabled cannabis patients and to support us in our journey. I am one of those patients. We do not have a Home Grow provision in NJ for our patients. Medical Cannabis was made available in August fo 2012. Governor Mikie Sherrill has publicly voiced a clearer path forward. She has explicitly endorsed home grow legalization on CBS News, stating she favors personal cultivation paired with "common-sense regulations, safeguards, and limits". Because the governor cannot sign a bill until the legislature votes on it, cannabis advocates are currently focusing their pressure on Senate President Scutari to finally allow S1758 to be heard. It is up to us to continue to apply such pressure, since our governement takes a back seat in allowing S1758 to even have an informational hearing! Our new Governor has not acknowledged our many letters, emails and requests to not only her, but our previous administration, chose the same silence.
