I know team taglines are popular with teams, especially putting that in this time of year during planning... Some teams use the same one all the time (ex. Syracuse Head.Heart.Hustle) and some change from year to year with input from the players themselves.
Three big ideas that were used with my team last year:
- "Climb" - referring to "Climbing the mountain" - just trying to be process focused and let the outcome take care of itself.
- "Champions on our worst day" - literally meaning, raising our level of play to where our worst was good enough to win, but figuratively, not letting our emotions dictate the behavior of a championship team. Can I do what I need to do on days I don't feel like it or don't have the juice?
- "A lot to accomplish but nothing to prove" - this comes from the fact that our team was finally relevant. Finally a team in contention. Still not a ton of widespread respect (at least it felt that way). But we can't be trying to "prove ourselves" instead we should be trying to "accomplish our goals" - tries to reframe the mindset into focusing internally and blocking the noise.
What did you guys use? Or, what are your favorites over the years?
