Was your last sales meeting actually successful?
Outside of winning (or losing) a deal, every sales interaction ends up going 2 ways. They advance or they continue. An advance: prospect commits to a next step, however small. There is a clear next step agreed. They must do something that moves things forward. This keeps momentum in your deals. A continuation: no next step, or at least not one that the prospect has committed too. This means you're going to be chasing the prospect. This is bad news. Continuations are killing your deals. Or best case, stretching your deal cycles out way longer than they need to be. Continuations might sound good but they include things like; • sending info • "We'll discuss it internally" • "I'll get back to you" • following up, circling back, touching base etc Chase, chase, chase. Ghosted. You know exactly what I'm talking about, don't you? If the prospect doesnt commit to a next step (but you do), you quickly start to look desperate. You think you're being helpful by "checking in". ("Did you get a chance to review the information I send you?!") Reality is, you've lowered your status in the prospects eyes - and you'll really struggle to get it back. The takeaway? Turn continues into advances. Get the prospect to commit to SOMETHING. No matter how small. Every. Single. Time. Even if it's not something you really need. Otherwise, you are conditioning your prospect to treat you like their bitch. If they don't commit. They ain't a fit.
