We give them away so freely, don’t we? To our kids, our partners, our clients, our friends, the people who need us to just hold it together one more time. And it feels good, in the moment. Being needed feels good. Being the strong one, the capable one, the one everyone leans on — it feels like purpose. But here’s what I’ve learned: you can’t pour from a well you never refill. I spent years giving from a place of “there’s always more where that came from,” until one day there wasn’t. Not a crash, not a breakdown — just a quiet emptiness where my energy used to be. I looked full on the outside. I was hollow on the inside. What’s left when you give it all away? Sometimes, honestly — not much. And that’s not a failure on your part, it’s just physics. Energy moves. If it’s only ever moving out, eventually there’s nothing left to move. So I’ll ask you what I had to ask myself: who is filling you back up? What are you doing that isn’t for anyone else — that’s just for the return of your own soul to yourself? Not selfish. Necessary. 🤍
