If you have stumbled across us at World Weather Skool, and are wondering how it all works, this will help. Have a read and all will hopefully become crystal clear. 💯 Points You earn points when other members like your posts or comments. 1 like = 1 point. This encourages users to produce quality content and interact with other members in their community. 2️⃣ Levelling Up When you first signup, you will start at Level 1. To level up, you get points awarded when you post and receive likes on your posts. Getting to Level 2 (5 posts) will allow you to post your own threads, and have access to other stuff in the Classroom. As you gain points, you will continue to level up. Your level is shown at the bottom right of your avatar. The number of points required to get to the next level is shown under your avatar on your profile page. Level 1 - 0 points Level 2 - 5 points (you can then post threads) Level 3 - 20 points Level 4 - 65 points Level 5 - 155 points Level 6 - 515 points Level 7 - 2,015 points Level 8 - 8,015 points Level 9 - 33,015 points 🗣️ Chatting with other members At Level 2 you will be able to chat to other members. We leave it to Level 2 because spammers tend to join groups and solicit the membership by DM, unseen to admin, without posting or contributing! We obviously don’t want that, and neither do you! 😡 👮 Rules The rules are pretty simple. View them here before you start to post. 🔢 Posting Categories Every time you post, it will need you to select a Category. We have 8 of these to choose from. Just pick the one your post fits best. 📣 Updates (from me) 🤝 Introduce Yourself (your first post should go here) 🗣️ Discussions (general stuff) 😂 Fun (have a laugh) 📸 Photos (show us your pics) 🌦️ UK Weather (self explanatory) 🌍 World Weather (everywhere else) 🚨 Climate Change (THE topic of discussion) ❌ Non Weather Topics (other things to talk about) 📚 The Classroom This is where our Courses and Articles live. Check it out to see what is available. Everyone should read the Weather 101 material, as it gives a good grounding in weather topics.

Puffin island on cusp of closure as it runs out of water
Lundy Island, in the Bristol Channel off the north Devon coast, is facing closure unless it receives meaningful rainfall Famed for its puffins, the picture-perfect island of Lundy attracts birdwatchers from all over. But the island is on the cusp of being evacuated as water levels drop to the lowest levels ever, forcing residents to take drastic measures to ensure supplies do not run out. More …

How Autumn changes the North Atlantic Circulation
This is an excellent description of how Autumn changes the patterns we’ve become so used to over the summer months, and how it manifests itself. As the Northern Hemisphere moves from summer into autumn, the North Atlantic atmosphere begins a seasonal reorganisation. Faster cooling at high latitudes strengthens the temperature contrast between polar and subtropical air, influencing the jet stream and creating a more favourable environment for mid-latitude weather systems. The transition is visible at the surface through shorter days, cooler nights and the first incursions of colder air, but some of the most important changes occur several kilometres above the ground. Across the North Atlantic, the large-scale circulation gradually shifts towards a more energetic cool-season pattern, with the jet stream exerting greater influence on the low-pressure systems, fronts and changing air masses that shape European autumn weather. This does not mean that storms begin on a particular date, nor does every autumn follow the same progression. Strong Atlantic activity can alternate with blocking highs and settled periods, yet the background environment generally becomes more favourable for active mid-latitude weather as the temperature difference between northern and southern latitudes grows. How Autumn changes the North Atlantic Circulation
Saw this today on BlueSky
We might pass 1969 and 2018 for the run of temperatures above 20 degC, but I don’t think it will stretch much further. This is a record that 2026 will not break. We are going to be under the influence of air from the North West, which will be much fresher. Autumn has arrived for certain. Acknowledgement to @metjam.co.uk
