@Dom OBrien that sounds like a win!! I definitely relate to thinking I would only be one marathon and done, but it’s funny how afterwards many marathoners think, “Yeah I’d do this again!” I knew once I finished that I wanted to do another one. Are you thinking another world major? Consistent fueling and staying strong even when your headphones died are huge feats you accomplished! That’s an awesome result and a great photo! Congrats again, marathoner! 🎉
Athlete Spotlight: Aury!
Happy September y'all! This month's Athlete Spotlight is @Aury Moreno 🥳 Aury, we are so glad to have you in the community — you have such a joy and passion for running, and we can't wait to cheer you on ahead of your marathon in November! Aury shared that she had struggled with calling herself a runner for the longest time (me too!), and to be called an athlete was next level. I think it is a great reminder that we are often the hardest on ourselves, and that everyone in this group is absolutely an athlete! 👏 Be sure to check out her full spotlight — it's a good one!: https://www.myfirstmarathon.co/post/first-marathon-buddy-program-athlete-spotlight-meet-aury

Friday Question 💥
Have you ever hit the wall during a training run/long run? How did you handle it? (Asking because this actually happened to me during an 18-miler last Sunday). Stories/tips/advice all welcome! 🤲🏻

During my 18-mile long run during marathon training, I hit the wall and was hurting so bad that I decided to walk the last 2 miles. I also hit the wall during a shorter training run for a half. I woke up way too late and ran when it was ungodly hot out, and I absolutely crashed. Once I walked back up our driveway (which is a steep hill 🫠) I was so beat that I just broke down in tears. After a good cry session, a shower, and rehydration, I was in a much better spot!
Win Wednesday!!
Let’s celebrate some wins today!! what’s something big or small that you’re celebrating this week??

@Erin Phifer you are my hero! I’d like to think I could do a 15-miler on the treadmill but not so sure lol. That is discipline right there!!

@Kristine Owen Wood recovering after a race on its own can be a challenge, but especially when you’re still training for a marathon and trying to make sure you’re not overdoing it! I’m proud of you for listening to your body and making sure you’re in a healthy spot to continue onwards with the marathon training 💪
Marathon Week!
It is officially marathon week for @Dom OBrien before the TCS Sydney Marathon! 🎉 I bet you’re busy prepping, tapering, and likely traveling, so please let us know how we can support you in the days leading up to your first marathon! We are all rooting for you and so excited for you to tackle this!!
