Where did you actually land your very first AI client? Upwork vs Cold Outreach?
Hey everyone, quick question for those who’ve already gotten traction with their agency. I’m currently setting up my AI agency, Advaya AI (https://advayaai.in), where we focus on voice agents, automated booking, WhatsApp integrations, and review management for local businesses. Coming from an 8+ year IT automation background, building the solutions is the smooth part—it’s the initial client acquisition strategy I’m locking down now. For getting those first 1–3 paying clients, what worked best for you in the beginning? 1. Freelancing platforms (Upwork, Fiverr, etc.) — higher intent, but racing to the bottom on price? 2. Cold outreach (Email, LinkedIn, cold calls, DMing local owners) — harder to break the ice, but higher ticket potential? If cold outreach was your route, what approach or angle gave you the highest response rate? Would love to hear how you guys cracked your first deal!

@Chetan Mishra Thank you Chetan! Really appreciate the clear direction. I’ll DM you right now to hear your outreach approach.
When an agent step fails, what should the retry do first?
When a step fails, the retry choice matters more than the retry itself. Running it again blind can repeat the same action twice. So which rule do you set first? Retry only after checking the last state? Wait, then retry once, then park it? Or park it straight away for a human look? I set the state check first. A retry without that check is just hoping the second run behaves better. Which rule would you pick first?

100% state check first. Blind retries are a quick way to duplicate actions. Coming from enterprise infra, idempotent design is everything here, I always verify state or read the response/payload before re-triggering anything. If the state didn't update, max 1 backoff retry, then park it for a human if it still fails.
Welcome! Introduce yourself + share what you're building 👋
Welcome to the AI Automation Agency Hub. You're in the right place. This community is run by the team at Morningside. We build AI systems for real companies every day, and everything in here comes from that work. Beginners have gone from "I know nothing about AI" to their first paying client in this group, and the whole point of this place is that you're next. Two things to do right now 👇 Introduce yourself below. Drop a comment with: • Where in the world you're from • What you're building toward (first client? career change? scaling an agency?) • One thing you're stuck on right now Then head to the Classroom → Start Here. It takes 10 minutes, and you'll know exactly what to do first. While you're in the comments, read a few intros. If someone's story sounds like yours, tell them. Some of the best client work in this community started with two members saying hi. See you inside, The Morningside team.

@Lakshmi Narayanan Thanks and spot on! Coming from a tech background, it's easy to focus on the code first, but mapping solutions directly to real business pain points and ROI is definitely key. How did you go about finding your first niche to target for outreach? Would love to hear your approach!

Welcome! Introduce yourself + share what you're building 👋
Welcome! It's great to have you here. Before you introduce yourself, let me tell you why this community exists. 📍 Our mission The world is about to split between people who can use AI and people who cannot. We exist to stop that gap becoming permanent. This community exists to put you in that second group. My team and I run Morningside AI, a 7-figure AI business working with everyone from local companies through to Fortune 500s. Along the way, we created the AI Automation Agency (AAA) model: the framework thousands of people now use to start and scale their own AI businesses. Everything we teach comes straight from the frontlines. Not theory. Not guru talk. What's actually working right now, handed over. And we've watched complete beginners in here go from "I know nothing about AI" to landing their first paying clients. That's the whole point of this place. You're next. With that out of the way, start here 👇 1. Introduce yourself below. Drop a comment with: - Where in the world you're from - What you're building toward (first client? career change? scaling an agency?) - One thing you're stuck on right now 2. Then head to the Classroom → Start Here. It takes 10 minutes, and you'll know exactly what to do first. While you're in the comments, read a few intros. If someone's story sounds like yours, tell them. Some of the best client work in this community started with two members saying hi. See you inside, Liam 💪🏽

Hey everyone! 👋 Excited to join the community! A quick intro about me: I’ve spent the last 8+ years in IT Infrastructure Automation, building production-grade enterprise automations using Python, APIs, and various automation frameworks (including n8n). Currently, I’m working full-time in a 9-to-5, but my goal is to build and scale my own AI Automation Agency (AAA) and transition into running it full-time. Right now, I'm at that classic starting crossroads: Niche & Scope: Deciding whether to lead with Voice Agents, Workflow Automations, or custom AI solutions. Offer Creation: Structuring a high-ticket, high-value offer that solves urgent client pain points. Tech Stack: Streamlining the stack to build fast, scalable, and easy-to-maintain solutions. Coming from an enterprise infra background, I'm comfortable with backend logic, custom scripts, and system integrations, but I’m looking to sharpen my GTM (Go-To-Market), offer positioning, and sales discovery strategy. Would love to connect with anyone who has made the 9-to-5 transition or is currently building in this space. What was the single offer or use case that got you your first 3 paying clients? Looking forward to contributing and learning with you all! 🤝

I’m also coming from an IT automation background (8+ years with Python & APIs) and transitioning to build an agency. Love the vision with MCPs and RAG for CRE. Let's definitely connect! 🤝
