Why 99% of beginner copywriters fail (and the 3 skills you actually need)
Workshop Recordings are here now with detailed notes: https://www.skool.com/copywriting-launchpad/classroom/f983299b?md=a19fdf8b4590464b9b03eadf95942ace Most beginner copywriters spend thousands on courses, learn features and benefits, and still have no idea how to approach a real client project. This is half of Day 1 from the Copywriting Fundamentals Workshop, A live 5-day training taught by @Matthew Volkwyn and I. In this session, Matthew breaks down the only 3 types of copy you need to understand to write anything: 1️⃣ Idea Copy — How to grab the attention of the right person (not just any person). The hook is not about being clever. It is about being relevant, beneficial, and curious-making to the specific buyer. 2️⃣ Conversion Copy — How to shift a prospect's perspective so they are ready to buy before you ever pitch them. Most copywriters skip this entirely and go straight to the offer. That is why their copy does not convert. 3️⃣ Sales Copy — How to reduce risk, handle skepticism, and prompt action. This is the part AI produces easily — which means it is the least valuable skill to develop first. Matthew also walks through a live email teardown, demonstrates the Bruce Lee principle applied to copywriting, and shows you exactly what happens when you remove conversion copy from a pitch. Days 2–4 go deep into each of the three fundamental types of copy with more examples. Day 5 is a practical session where Matthew gives you a way to drill these fundamentals until they become muscle memory. Copywriting is not a shortcut. It is a learnable skill that rewards repetition, feedback, and honest practice. Copywriting Launchpad is where you do that work alongside other people on the same path. Finally Took The Step
I was confused for a whole two months whether to upgrade or not. I was crying because the card from India was not being accepted. My father gave me his card without asking anything. He said, "You never asked for anything. I don't know what you are doing, but I know you will put in the work, whatever it takes." I went through all the free course and realized how valuable it is. $50 is a big amount for us South Asians. It's like one-sixth of our monthly income. Now I know it's actually serious because I have put in money to save my time. Now it's my responsibility, solely, to do whatever it takes. End of the blame game because I got what I needed.

People that don't take things for granted and go the extra mile always win at the end. Congrats on taking the leap and Godspeed! Keep up the good work, will be following your journey :) This is my day 1 today. Hope to catch up and go through the whole course as well.
WIN: Closed a 8-Fig DTC brand
Hope you're all doing well! Just ended a trial week with a 8-figure brand today, and spent $21k in a single week at a 1.9X ROAS. Their breakeven is 1.3X, and they want to operate above 1.5X. Got 1 super winner and 6 winners in a single week. Excited to work with them.... as the retainer and % of ad spend is juicy. That's all for today, have a great one.

Audience: 30+ men/women facing bloating and gut issues. Wants to have apple cider vinegar but don't like the taste Problem aware: yes Solution aware: no HOOK: i had to give up my favouriite food when i turned 30 Ever since I entered my 30s, it's not the same. I noticed a significant change in my gut. I used to go out every weekend, eat and drink whatever I wanted. But now I can't even go out and not pay for it the next day. I was able to eat everything and anything in my 20s, but as soon as i entered in my 30s, BAM! It changed. I am 32 now and I can't live the rest of my life bloated. So I researched it on the internet and I found out you’ve to maintain the normal microbiome in your gut. As you age your normal microbiome(flora) changes which leads to gut issues. Microbes are the healthy bacteria in the gut that aid in digestion and synthesize essential vitamins. I looked online and asked people my age, how they dealt with it? Everyone had different opinions. Some said probiotics, some said to try digestive enzymes, others said to take more fiber, ayurvedic churna, magnesium, zinc and what not. I tried a few things but I messed up, especially the probiotics; they killed my stomach. 😑 And I realised I shouldn't listen to others; I should listen to my body, everyone's body reacts differently to everything. One day I was sitting and thinking about this and I remembered my mother used to take apple cider vinegar in water for her bloating. I tried apple cider vinegar and took it for 30 days. And guess what, the bloating was almost gone. But one thing I can't stand is its taste. It tastes like kombucha, and makes me want to puke. I tried it with different things, I added honey to it to mask the taste. I mixed apple or cranberry juice in apple cider vinegar and water. but 😵‍💫 the taste of vinegar is so strong. I was so done with its taste that's when the internet did its magic. You know how we think or search for anything and the next second it pops up on your screen.

Mom' solution to bloating with a twist. Hook: Have you ever had to give up your favorite foods due to bloating? Well, ever since I turned 30, I've never been the same. Something changed inside me. I had a gut feeling. For some reason, I can't eat, drink, or go out with friends without getting bloated the next day. Do you hate sucking in your stomach when you're out with friends so not to appear out of shape? I despise it. I tried researching what could have caused my bloating... I read that as you age, your gut bacteria change, and you need to go the extra mile just to maintain them. Some people did that with Probiotics. Others tried digestive enzymes, fiber, magnesium, zinc, or ayurvedic churna. I hated having to suck my stomach, so I tried everything. Nothing changed. I booked appointments with several doctors. My stomach lining was fine, I was normal, they said. I didn't feel normal. Mom used to use apple cider vinegar for her bloating (Who does that nowadays) And out of desperation, I tried it for 30 days (Yuck!) But, you know what... My bloating was almost gone. But 30 days of torturing my taste buds and almost puking were not worth it for me. Just as I was about to give up, I found apple cider vinegar gummies. Same benefits without the torture. Placed the order right away, no thinking needed. Tasted like candy, worked as advertised. I now get to eat anything I want, like in my 20s, without that constant fear of getting bloated. You have to experience it to believe it. Try it for the next 30 days for 25% off and see it for yourself, or get your money back. Place your order now while it lasts. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm not sure if this makes a difference or if the copy is decent, but I used the same information you've given and tried to write it in my own words. Hope it helps :)
One lesson that completely changed how I look at copy.
Last night, I watched Alicia Joseph break down a single headline from a sales page: "Learn How We Can Build You A Custom, End-To-End Marketing System That Is Booking You 5+ Sales Calls/Day In the Next 7 Days." Instead of looking at the words, she explained the psychology behind them. Here are the 8 key elements I learned to look for when analyzing or writing copy. 1. New / Hope People are naturally attracted to things that feel new, different, and promising. Familiar messages are easy to ignore because people think, "I've seen this before." Fresh ideas create curiosity and hope. 2. Easy Your offer should feel simple and achievable. If people think it's complicated or confusing, they'll stop reading and won't take action. 3. Safe People want to feel they're making a low-risk decision. Build trust by reducing uncertainty and showing that your offer delivers real results. 4. Big The outcome should feel significant and worthwhile. A compelling result naturally grabs attention. 5. Unique Show what makes your offer different from everyone else. If your message sounds like every competitor's, there's no reason to choose you. 6. Ultra-Specific Specificity builds credibility. Use exact numbers, timelines, outcomes, and details instead of vague claims. The more precise your promise, the more believable it becomes. 7. Understandable Keep your message clear and simple. If readers have to work to understand it, they'll move on. 8. Useful People buy benefits, not features. Make it obvious how your offer solves a real problem or improves someone's life. Attention without value doesn't convert. Applying these elements to the headline "Learn How We Can Build You..." - Easy — It sounds like the work is done for the customer. "A Custom, End-To-End Marketing System" - Unique — A tailored solution. - Useful — Solves an important business problem. - Understandable — Clear and easy to visualize. "Booking You 5+ Sales Calls/Day In the Next 7 Days" - Big — 5+ sales calls per day is an attractive outcome. - Ultra-Specific — Includes measurable numbers and a clear timeline. - Useful — Focuses on the result the customer actually wants.

I used to think copy was writing lots of paragraphs to push people into believing things, when in reality, it is lots of implied promises/claims that are hiding behind everything you write. From the headline to the close. Thanks for sharing :)
