Savoir vs Connaître — Two Ways to Know
Salut! Today you're learning one of the most common points of confusion in French — there are two completely different verbs for "to know" and they are not interchangeable! Video below (Coming soon I'm tired !) Savoir — To know a fact or skill Je sais — I know Tu sais — You know Il / Elle / On sait — He / She / We knows Nous savons — We know Vous savez — You know (formal / plural) Ils / Elles savent — They know Connaître — To know a person or place Je connais — I know Tu connais — You know Il / Elle / On connaît — He / She / We knows Nous connaissons — We know Vous connaissez — You know (formal / plural) Ils / Elles connaissent — They know The key difference: use savoir for facts and skills — je sais nager, je sais que tu es là. Use connaître for people and places — je connais Marie, je connais bien Paris. Also, if it is followed by a Noun, it is always connaître ! When in doubt, ask yourself if you could replace "know" with "be familiar with" — if yes, it's connaître! Can you make a few sentences using today's words? Write them in the comments below!

Comme nous savons lire la musique, nous reconnaissons l'arrangement. C'est agréable de savoir que le metteur en scène connaît de nombreuses façons de nous aider à garder le lien avec le public.

Aujourd'hui, je dois partager mon chocolat. Vous devez comprendre que c'est très difficile pour moi. La société doit imposer son étiquette ; nous devons faire des sacrifices.
When NOT to Make a Liaison
Salut! You've learned when liaison happens — today you're learning when it doesn't, which is just as important for sounding natural! Video below Liaison is forbidden after: -Groupe nominal verbe Mon chat est beau Le train est vite Le crayon est bleu -Et — never liaised Un chat et un chien -Un H aspiré (Both silent H and H aspiré are silent, so you just got to magically know by practicing) Je monte en haut (Also every time I read about H aspiré they give the example of Les haricots, and they say its forbidden, but all my life I heard that liaison pronounced, so maybe France is different than Québec for this particular one) -Le S/X apporter par Tu Tu aimes aller au Cinéma Tu veux un peu de gateau?

Negation — How to Say No, Never, and Nothing
Salut! Today you're learning how to make sentences negative in French — and there are more ways to do it than just ne pas! Video below Ne ... pas — Not Ne ... jamais — Never Ne ... plus — No longer / Not anymore Rien — Nothing Ne ... personne — Nobody Aucun(e) — No / None Ni… ni… — Neither… nor… Sans — Without Ne… que — Only One important note: in casual spoken French, the ne is very often dropped — so you'll hear je suis pas fatigué just as much as je ne suis pas fatigué. Both are correct depending on the context! Can you make a few sentences using today's words? Write them in the comments below!

Il n'y a rien dans les commentaires. Ni mots ni phrases. Personne ne lira mes petites phrases.
