Very busy these days with the second part of Shiny Stockings (I like this tune more and more each time) in the Galbraith exercise that @Mentor Bob Kinney is supervising us. Finished but not perfect, with some doubts in the final part. I have chosen to play it with the iReal Pro, following what Dr. @Casey Childers has also done. Many hours invested, but they are really worth it. I will continue with the last parts. I am also doing the melody and seeing what solos can be done. It is very interesting to start from the comping that Galbraith proposes to construct scales and arpeggios..

While I slowly struggle my way through Galbraith's Shiny exercise, I've been figuring out the melody and a few chords to get a clearer picture of the song's structure. I even gave a solo —which I still need to improve a lot— following the chords Galbraith suggests. (I'll have less free time now; tomorrow I start work back at the clinic, and people usually come back from vacation in pretty rough shape!) I put my headphones on to record directly—the downstairs neighbor started complaining a bit about my Shiny practice!! Onward!

First try for Etudes 2.1 and 2.2. I recorded these last week, but didn't get chance to upload, I am getting better everyday. I missed a few chords at times and I know this video is not perfect. I am practicing with metronome at 80-90 bpm. Both of these recordings are 80% from Marc's recording.

@Coach Gabriel Sebrian gave good compliments on my last submittal on my neighboring tones assignment, but he also very gently finger-wagged me for going rogue and playing the assignment in a familiar pattern rather than how he assigned it. Here is a repost with it how he assigned and intended it to be. His feedback also included to slow down. He's not wrong; I'm constantly battling with pushing the limits on the tempo... playing on the 'ragged edge' of my capabilities. Soooo, here are two videos. The first is his exercise playing a NT drill as it cycles through the fourths in the upper tone (UT), target, lower tone (LT), target format. This is fairly pedantic and not overly exciting to watch. Nonetheless, I'm posting so all can see what he has assigned, and what his feedback eventually is so you may potentially benefit also. The second video is using this basic format to explore improv approaches. I weave in some attempts at flair/expression, as well as some chromatics. It is slower than the plain post so as to really focus on trying to imagine a line and then play it. It has a lot of missed notes, lost tempo, and otherwise just generally messy at times, but it shows where I am on it at this point. I don't think it's all bad though; I'm happy with a few parts of it, including a few chromatic licks. I think I'm a little further along in actual improv progress on this when not limiting myself to UT, target, LT, target approach. Hopefully I can crank out a post soon that demonstrates better overall progress, including other NT approaches. Anyhow... here they are. No need to watch all of either.
