Recipe Tuesday!
TAKING ACTION: ✅Read today’s post and post your pictures of your TWO fruits and/or veggies today in the comments! Let me know if you have any questions! ✅Check your pantry and chuck at least one item that contains processed sugar today! Happy Tuesday, friends! As I mentioned yesterday, we’re going to be talking about all things sugar this month—but before we get too far into it, let’s go ahead and cover the details of our monthly Color Challenge so you can get started! 🌈 As you know, our annual Sugar Detox is at the end of the month, but until then, I encourage you to slowly start reducing your processed sugar intake, which will reduce the frequency and severity of sugar spikes. I’m going to educate you on why this is important throughout the month. The first thing you need to know is that all sugar isn’t bad. In fact, your body needs sugar, but it doesn’t need it in the form of processed sugar. Instead, fruits and vegetables give you sugar packaged with fiber, water, and nutrients—so it enters your bloodstream more slowly than foods with processed sugars. The slower rise helps your body use the sugar for energy instead of sending insulin on a rollercoaster. 🎢 ⭐ To avoid overwhelm, our Color Challenge will start super simple this week and will change as we get further into the month. For this week’s Color Challenge, the goal is to consume at least TWO colorful fruits and/or veggies every day. This can be two fruits, two vegetables, or a combination of the two. We start today and end on Sunday. Please post your picture proof in the comments every day, and I will tally the totals on my end! Need a good starting place? @Aleiah Barker thanks. Working on my mindset. I know it’s gonna take a hot minute to change how my brain is functioning but it can be done. Build those neural pathways one sweet rejection at a time (no pun intended). I mean literally rejecting sweets. 🍭 🍩🍫 I had to talk myself out of pantry raids a couple times today. I looked at my “healthier” candy bars and was like nah too much sugar for a lunch treat. Looked at my candy corn pumpkin things and was like well maybe just one- ONE has almost thr same sugar as the whole mini candybar. I passed it all up. I did still have a treat. 2 mini pb cookies after supper. Nothing more!

Sugar. I know it’s my downfall. I used to do well then as I got older something shifted or maybe just hormones.

@Aleiah Barker I’ve done it once before. Went a LONG time in moderation. The thing that messed me up was getting a job I hated and I gained 40 lb in 6 months. Trying to get my nervous system back to a place of trust is hard though.
“In The Now” Decisions...
HAPPY OCTOBER 🎃 This week, we’re simply focusing on the present moment—on the decision you can make right now that will move you closer to the person you desire to be. Let’s look at some examples of decisions you might face this week that are “in the now” decisions ⬇️ 📌When you wake up, you only have about 20-30 minutes before you have to start getting ready for work. Will you scroll Instagram, or will you squeeze in some movement? 📌There’s a birthday celebration at work, and you can choose to eat birthday cake or grab the healthy snack you brought to work. (This isn’t to say you should never eat the birthday cake, but ask yourself, “Does a coworker’s birthday justify the splurge?”) 📌You’re forced to pull through the drive-thru one evening. Do you have to eat the French fries or can you choose a healthier side? The reality is that we have thousands of decisions to make every day. No wonder we want to make the easiest decision when it comes to our nutrition. I get it. But again, making the next right step is the secret sauce for long-term success! 💯

Way to call me out after I had some blondie brownie for breakfast. We had some last minute bus issues so I couldn’t make my normal breakfast. I did pair it with some chicken sausage just to get the protein. I just didn’t want only chicken sausage. I did skip any sweetener in my coffee though. So I guess maybe 2 good decisions can outweigh the bad one. 😆

TAKING ACTION: ✅Do you typically eat the same things throughout the week? Share your secrets (and tips!) below! We always talk about food and recipes on Tuesday, but I want to shift gears slightly today and talk about decision fatigue when it comes to what you’re going to eat. While some of you love to try new recipes and spend a lot of time in the kitchen, many people find themselves completely overwhelmed by too many options. You already know if this is you, and if it is, my advice is to keep your meals simple and repeatable for the most part. That’s not to say you can’t ever stray from the norm, but eating the same meals most of the time really does reduce the overwhelm. 💯 As if decision fatigue isn’t already high, we make numerous decisions around food each day. After factoring in when, where, what, and how much—and multiplying that by every meal and snack, you can see how the numbers add up. By making things automatic, you’re doing yourself a favor. With that said, if you love the recipes I provide each week, great! If they overwhelm you, that’s fine too! Take what you need and go about your day—and always do what works best for YOU! 🫶 Check out this Fall sheet pan recipe with 34g protein per serving! ⬇️ Fall Sheet Pan Gnocchi and Meatballs with Lemon Sauce - Mallory the Dietitian Dinner

I usually eat what I had for dinner the next day for lunch. I don’t mind eating the same thing for a few days. I usually eat the same breakfast for a week then change it the next week.
