I've got 20 calls booked over the next two weeks All of them came off the back of events and posts in my communities. That's not a brag. It's the point. We all turn up to teach, and we should. Teaching is why people came. Right!? But the event is also doing a job for your business, and that job is getting the right people onto a call with you. If you finish your presentation, say thanks for coming and log off, you've run a free class. Nothing wrong with that. Just don't confuse it with growth. So put the ask in. One line, near the end, after you've given people something genuinely useful. "If you want help applying this in your own community/life, here's my calendar." That's it. No pitch. No pressure. Most people just need permission to take the next step. And if you've run events this month and not one call came out of them, that's worth sitting with. Nine times out of ten, it isn't the content. Jenny's first workshop was a Monday idea that ran on Thursday. She was sitting there eating her own quick pickled onions, thought, "that's a workshop", and threw it together in three days. Two people came. She says she was discouraged, which is fair enough. But she recorded it anyway. Posted it. Shared the replay. That's when the chatter started. Not during the live session. After it. Most people run this the other way round. Weeks of planning, then they judge the whole thing on the number of people in the room, then they quietly bin the recording because only two showed up. The attendance figure isn't the result. The recording is the asset. It carries on working long after everyone has logged off, and it reaches the people who wanted to come but couldn't. Jenny Rader-Bakos told her husband it was a waste of time. All the effort going in, nothing coming back unless she was the one posting. He told her it was her passion. She stayed. A few things she said that are worth your time: The comments are where the magic happens, not the posts. She's active in about ten other communities and sits near the top of most leaderboards. People read a good comment, click the profile, find the community. She never uses stock images. She photographs the process, not just the finished plate, because people who only see the finished thing decide they couldn't do it themselves. She runs a five-day posting plan so she never sits there wondering what to post. Monday through Friday, each day has a job; weekends off.
