Why do people know what they want, but resist doing what it takes to get it?
Howdy, y'all! I'm a speaker and coach from the US, obsessed with helping coaches get more sales from speaking, but the thing i am really interested in is the subconscious, the nervous system, and how humans are influenced to change their behavior. this started with the question in the caption, but was really rooted in my own experience. first, as an athlete, looking at great sport coaches and wondering how they can get any player to do whatever they wanted, and the players would THANK them for it, for DECADES after. how can someone have such a strong level of influence? at a deeper leve, i became more curious around my own experience: both of my parents were addicts, and committed suicide (please hold your "i'm sorry's"). the experience for me was devastating, but left me with the same question, under a different format: why do people want something (to live a happy, fulfilling, loving life) but do the opposite (suicide)? i've spent 18 years coaching, and always interested in how great speaking isn't just great sounding, but it actually MOVES people to not only learn and act differently, but to EMBODY the ideas, values, and principles shared by the speaker. if you're interested in real behavioral change, and not just sounding shiny, let's talk! it would be cool to do a group call about some of our experiences, wisdom, and how we can enhance each other's skills.

Hey @Santana Vega Yturralde Great points raised... I'm a hypnotist, and I work with the subconscious every day. Like you I'm fascinated by why we are the way we are, and what it takes to unlock our innate potential. You're so right about the massive difference between holding an ideal in our heads, and embodying that ideal... For me, amongst my clients, every day is another step on a neverending journey of understanding the incredible depths of our minds and our unconscious resources, and how to alter the limiting beliefs and inhibiting emotions stored in our nervous system. Interestingly, I've discovered time and again that the things which hold people back from positive behaviour changes are essentially only themselves - younger versions of themselves hiding within, which learned to be afraid at some point, going into self-protection mode. Creating either remedial or generative change can sometimes be as simple as updating those younger parts of ourselves with a sense of security, encouragement, understanding... and having them experience and encounter the wisdom of our older self. I guess you work with this all the time - every lasting change you help your clients reach when they get confident and speak must be registered in their deep mind right? Where it updates their nervous system and feels embodied. Love the sound of your work by the way!

@Santana Vega Yturralde Right! Oh how long we procrastinate over doing what will take us to the next level...! And yeah, we'll totally rationalise our subconscious beliefs/fears with false conscious ones. Like... what's reeeally going on here? But to answer your question, I'd say it's always a fear of one thing or another - how tiring "the work" could be, the pain that may be temporarily felt as old traumas are neutralised, the nerves around showing up on the other side of the transformation and finally doing your thing (fear of performing or exposure) etc. What reasons for hesitation do you find amongst those you coach?

@Belle Gayer You are on a ROLL! Have fun riding that wave and seeing where the momentum takes you next!
I used to think I was behind... until I stopped comparing my journey to everyone else's.
It's funny how easy it is to look at someone else's results and forget they've been on a completely different path. These days, I spend less time comparing and more time learning. It's made the journey a lot more enjoyable, and honestly, a lot more productive. Everyone is building something different, and that's what makes communities like this so valuable. Here's to learning from each other instead of competing with each other. 👏

Love this. And we forget how so many people have become experts at making their journey look effortless when it fact it took everything and then some
