@Sarah Hulmes Yes, Birds and Wildlife have featured big in my life from an early age and it the big consistent as has been photography. My career has been patchy and half hearted as I was mostly an entrepreneur, a lighting engineer, a business director and also a Minister of religion. These were necessary but not my main love. At my age looking back I regret nothing, but I can focus now on what really has been my main love, teaching people how to love and protect wildlife and their environment.

@Sarah Hulmes I do have some awesome material in my classroom, but alas, I find that the marketing side is boring, so hopefully my group stays relevant.
The photographer’s eternal question
To adobe or not to adobe is it seems an always question. For me it is anyway. Lightroom is clunky and can run like a turtle with a dodgy leg at times but I mostly know my way around and it’s kinda familiar but, and it’s a big but, every time I have to actually deal with adobe I remember just how I hate evil megacorps who care only for profit at the expense of all else. And adobe fit the bill for evil megacorp to a T This years hunt for viable alternatives is complicated by a decision from last year. To upgrade my camera to the Sony A7v. It’s a brilliant camera 90% of a flagship A1ii but less than half the price. I love it however to get the best out of it I need to shoot in compressed raw format. No problem except it’s taking the software bros a long time to catch up. Almost every app I’ve looked at has the same problem, DXO photolab , and PureRaw, Affinity, Davinci resolve, none of them will open or edit my compressed files. The only viable options I can see at present are Pixelmator Pro and Photomator from Apple. So far they look ok, different obviously, but seem like they can do 90% of what LRC and PS can do for lots less money. Has anyone tried living with these apps and can give some feedback. Windows users may have other alternatives, but I’d rather be blind than use windows. Please help a desperate bird photographer out of his dilemma. Please?

I have been photographing birds for many years. When I first started editing photos it was the days of 35 mm film so all was done in a darkroom. I was an early adopter of digital when people said it could never achieve what film achieves. They were wrong. I use a lot of different editing tools, AI has made the task way easier, however, my advice is this, try and get your photo right from the start, use a simple program (my preferred is ACDSee which I use far more than my adobe which really is a cost burden but habits are habits, when I dont have it is when I will need it.

Town birds
No luck with finding the Hooded Plovers again but plenty of Little Corella's hanging around the neighbours conifers feasting on nuts!

UK Garden Birds
I have completed creating a journal on UK birds and am finalising the stickers. To accompany the journal I am working on creating a Notion Database for UK Birds. The first, the Garden Birds is now complete. If you do have a look I would love some feedback: Garden Birds UK

@Sonia Rampling its an online database. Notion is best described as a single digital workspace where you can organise absolutely anything — notes, tasks, projects, ideas, documents, databases — all in one place. It’s like having Google Docs + Trello + Evernote + a personal wiki + spreadsheets blended into one flexible system you can shape however you want.

@Eleanor Dilley I have been photographing birds in Africa, Europe and the UK for at least 35 years. I have been a lucky photographer and I am surrounded by many bird books covering the globe but I mainly reference the UK, Europe and Southern Africa. My birdwatching started as a child in South Africa and matured in the UK in the 90's.
Have you ever seen a yawning Kookaburra?
Well now you have 😉 Super cute Kookie hanging out on my neighbours fence watching me tidy the garden. He patiently waited for me to go inside and get the camera, and then gave me a yawn and a big feather ruffle, what a great model! Unedited shots except for cropping.

We have quite a few here in the UK in private collections and zoos. I was at work when I looked out from my office and saw a Kookaburra perched across the river in Barking (London). I was so excited I called my friend who ran the RSPB in Rainham and told him my observation. He laughed, the Kookaburra was an escapee who spends summer outdoors and then goes back to its owner for winter. A real smart bird.
