Sometimes, in the pursuit of getting better, we forget why we started in the first place. Basketball is a game. A kids’ game that we’re lucky enough to grow up and still have the privilege to play. We get to step on the court, compete, challenge ourselves, work toward something, and experience something that we genuinely love. Of course, you should train hard. You should care. You should want to win. You should want to become the best player you can possibly be. But don’t let the pressure to succeed become so heavy that it takes the joy out of the game. Don’t be so afraid of making a mistake that you stop trying new things. Don’t be so focused on the result that you forget to enjoy the process. Don’t let the expectations you put on yourself turn something you love into something you dread. Try the move you’ve never tried before. Take the shot you’re not completely confident in. Play with creativity. Challenge yourself. Make mistakes. Laugh at yourself. Learn from them. Try again. There’s something special about playing simply because you love to play. At the end of the day, we’re lucky. We get to chase a ball around a court, compete with our friends, push our bodies, test our limits, and spend time doing something that makes us feel alive. So work hard. Hold yourself to a high standard. Chase your goals. Want to win. But don’t forget to have fun along the way. Because the moment you lose the joy of the game, you’ve lost something much more important than a game. Don’t take the fun out of basketball. 🏀❤️ Trainer: @Logan Hinton, a former 5 year pro across three countries. Train Like a Pro!
