New Recording: Where Your Sleep Tension Actually Lives
🎧 New 30-min recording is up, and I want to tell you why I found it crucial to record. Most of us carry tension in the same spots without noticing: - 😬 A tight jaw, tongue pressed up - 🫁 A breath that only reaches the top of the chest - 🙅 Arms crossed for no real reason - 👀 Eyes locked on one narrow point instead of the whole room These are signs of a body bracing, staying ready, trying to control something. And you can't think your way out of a clenched jaw. Telling yourself to relax rarely works, because the tension isn't a decision, it's a habit your nervous system learned. What shifts it is new movement, in a moment where nothing is at stake. That's what Awareness Through Movement is. It's an audio-based class format of the Feldenkrais Method, developed by Moshe Feldenkrais, a physicist and judoka who got curious about how people relearn movement after his own injury didn't respond to conventional treatment. It's not stretching or exercise. It's slow, small, exploratory movement that gives your nervous system a chance to notice what it's doing and find another option. I trained as a Feldenkrais practitioner because this was the piece CBT-I and behavioral sleep work alone couldn't reach. You can fix someone's schedule and their thoughts about sleep, and their body can still be bracing at 11pm like it's expecting a threat. This is where I go to work with that layer directly. 🧘 The recording walks through jaw and tongue, breath, hands, head and neck, and eyes. No Feldenkrais experience needed, just a floor or a chair and 20 minutes where nobody needs anything from you. Find the recording here. Tell me in the comments what you notice before and after.

@Maša Nobilo You are so welcome and thank you for creating this lesson! I adore to explore and discover information about my body in these subtle ways: somehow it is always there and I feel like the Feldenkrais Method helps to sharpen our senses for the sensations and patterns that are actually present in us. In this class for instance, opening the hands after closing the fingers into a soft fist felt so hard for some reason. The flowing movement of the eyeballs behind the closed eyelids is also something to be explored further. At the end of the practice my whole pelvis felt so heavy on the ground! Curious to keep coming back to it.
I almost forgot how DOPE I am (and likely you did too)
Someone said this to me in a session last week and I haven't stopped thinking about it: "Oh wow, I almost forgot how cool I can be." Not fixed. Just, for a second, unmistakably themselves. That's the whole reason I'm opening up a new offer this month. When you're running on empty for long enough, sleep isn't the only thing that goes. PLAY GOES TOO. Feeling good in your own body goes. And that's not a side effect of the exhaustion, it's part of what's keeping it going. I got starkly reminded that there is a whole plethora of practices that both I and my clients do to support sleep that have NOTHING to do directly with sleep, but are rather practices that remind us that we are strong, healthy, playful beings with sparks of joy running through our veins. So, this August, I will be offering Dance & Meditation Mornings, Mondays 8:30am Lisbon time. Twenty min of dancing and ten minutes of meditating together before the day gets its hands on you. And a Dream Circle every other Wednesday at 6pm, where we actually work with what your dreams are handing you instead of ignoring them. Equipment-free movement class coming soon too. All of it's free right now. In September it becomes a paid subscription, so if you've been meaning to show up for one of these, this is your window. Monday or Wednesday. See the details in the "Calendar" tab here in Skool. Come remember what you forgot.
