Is it "normal" to cringe at your previous performances?
I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the correct category. Generally, even if something I sung sounds decent to me at that moment, I get frustrated at it a day or so later. Do you get this feeling too? Like, I can hear sooo many mistakes or missed opportunities lol. In this example, I missed some of the melodic spice, it feels like I'm yelling in some places, mild throat tension, I'm sometimes out of breath, terrible distortion (this was recorded a week ago) and no build up before it, and so on... Can you hear stuff other than these? Evaluation is very welcome but I'm a little sensitive so maybe dial down the harshness? Haha! On the contrary, I feel like I'm developing my ear sensitivity and that's a good thing right??

It also takes some getting used to hearing your own voice outside your head. Everyone I know felt cringey listening to their recorded self at the start.
What Are Your August Plans?
Who are you seeing in concert? What project are you currently working on? What do you want to see happen here? HELP ME LIVE VICARIOUSLY THROUGH YOU! HAHA! I'm just kidding...mostly. While August brings a lot of transitions for me, the main transition I'm excited about is moving from months of court stuff to finally having more time for music and community. I've had so many things I want to do here, but increasingly less time to do them until now. While I it won't all be ready in August, I will be starting the setup of my new course versions, memberships, and a new vocal program, using this community as the hub. With that also comes ramping up content like I've been wanting to do for months. But there's something particular about my ADHD brain that I want to keep in mind. Often, if I tell you all the details, my brain marks it as done already. So, I'm really only going to say that I'm excited about what's coming, and would love to hear more about... What would YOU like to see here? I'm also producing an alt. rock artist while planning out my own music for this Fall. Being in the hard rock genre with a southern gothic soul, I've been thinking about collaborations as I build. I have a connection with Lzzy Hale, but I'm nowhere near where I need to be yet to bring her on. Taylor Momsen and Dorothy Martin also are on my list for the future. But I'm looking smaller, like Jared Benjamin, Lø Spirit, or others on the rise in social media. Is there anyone you would recommend?

I have enjoyed hearing others posts of video of what they are working on vocally and the feedback they get. I keep meaning to do more of that myself. A program that puts more of that sort of homework here would be cool.
Vocal Harmony Voice Leading
With some help from Draven I have added some vocal harmonies to the first pre-chorus in this tune. I feel like I am struggling with getting a clear resonant sound and getting the emotional impact in there. I don't think I am falling back into speech mode, as is easy to do when singing well below my break. But perhaps I am again and can't tell. I also plan to put a bit more edge in the chorus vocals ("You're not prepared to know how much I love you") section. And the vocal performance overall needs a lot more attention to details. But it will be nice to at least have the remaining sections of vocal harmony scored.

Thanks! Vowel anchoring and opening do seem like the things to focus on next.
Adding small amount of distortion to a pitch
I was working on the warm up exercise of using a grunting sound to touch a bit of distortion while singing a pitch. Feedback welcome.

It’s Friday Nov 21st! What are you working on?
One month until Winter! What are you currently working on? Whether training, prepping for a show, recording, writing, or whatever you might have going on in the world of music, we would love to hear about it! Personally, I'm finally at the end of a year-long journey of changing my voice to fit a more Southern Gothic Rock style than the Progressive Hard Rock/Metal I was doing before. I'm still trying to relax into it rather than force it, but a more forward/fast vibrato, a lot of grit, and some wild vocal runs, I finally feel like I found a passionate and colorful singing voice that seems to fit like a glove. I hope to soon start finalizing the demos of at least 15 of the 50 songs I've written. I'll likely post a few here when they're ready. I've also been producing one of my students and getting back into mixing and mastering a bit more as well. All of that while prepping a new, premiere coaching program for Rock Singing Success. Unfortunately after 23 years of marriage, life took a very unexpected, confusing, and stressful wrong turn this year. So, everything is taking far longer than I had hoped, but I'm excited for what comes next—even if it's not entirely what I had originally planned.

I am finishing up writing a song about having a partner with mental health issues and just starting to try and get some scratch tracks down as I learn the guitar and vocal parts I wrote. I am also in another writing group to finish a book I started three years ago. I just wrapped up a big work project so I hope to have more time for both now.
