Imprint Name Trouble
Hi! I am trying to relaunch my children's book and creating my own imprint. The problem is this: I found a name I absolutely love. In the US, it is completely open so far as book publishers go. There is, however, an independent publisher in the UK that uses that name. I want to have wide distribution on KDP and Ingramspark. This would mean distribution to the UK. I understand that they are publishing novels while I would be using my imprint of the same name for children's books. I also understand that when people search for the name could get either my imprint or that of the UK publisher and that this could be good and bad. I also have a second possibility for my imprint name that, while I don't like it as much, I haven't been able to find any competition for it in the publishing world. Do you think I should go with the name that I like best, or will it cause more trouble than it's worth?

@S H That’s really great to hear! It sounds like the relaunch has given you a chance to improve the book in ways you weren’t able to the first time around. What are you finding the most challenging with the relaunch right now? Is it getting the updated book ready, figuring out the marketing/content side, or something else?

@S H Of course! Being careful isn’t necessarily a bad thing it’s good to make sure you’re comfortable before moving forward. Out of curiosity, what’s the main thing you’re feeling most unsure or cautious about right now? Maybe I can help you think it through.
A published book doesn’t automatically mean a book that sells.
One thing I’ve noticed with self-publishing is that many authors put a lot of effort into writing and publishing the book, but the sales side gets treated as an afterthought. The book is live. The cover looks good. The description is there. The author is posting occasionally. But the sales still aren’t where they expected them to be. In my experience, the problem is often not the quality of the book itself. It can be the positioning, the audience, the book’s presentation, or simply having no clear strategy for getting the right readers to discover it. I’m curious: If you already have a published book, what is the biggest thing holding back your sales right now? 1. Getting traffic/readers 2. Converting views into sales 3. Reviews 4. Book positioning/cover/blurb 5. Marketing strategy 6. Honestly, I’m not sure I’d be interested to see which one comes up most in this group.

@Lenore Rosewood A book can be well written and professionally published, but if it isn’t reaching the right audience, sales can still be disappointing. Sometimes the issue comes down to the book description, positioning, or the way it’s being marketed to potential readers. For authors who already have a book published
Barnes & Noble
I actually scheduled a phone call with this scammer and then contacted Barnes & Noble directly.

@Rebecca Phillips That makes sense. What did Barnes & Noble say when you contacted them directly?

@Rebecca Phillips That makes a lot more sense now. I can definitely see why the email and phone call request would raise a red flag, especially since you already had a successful experience getting your book into your local B&N through a personal connection. Can I ask when you initially visited your local B&N and got the contact information for the person who ultimately approved the three copies, did you speak directly with the store manager or someone in charge of local author/book placement? And do you think that personal connection was the key factor in getting them to make an exception?
