Book club?
It's been years since I've picked up one of the copywriting classics that I used to read and reread regularly (photo attached of three I have even lugged around with me as I moved cities and countries). I feel my life and my emails are suffering for it. I'm gonna get back into rereading some classic copywriting and marketing books... but I was thinking, maybe turn it into some kind of group activity? A book club? A naked book club? A naked book club in a bathtub? I have no idea. Maybe you can tell me if you are currently or have previously been in a book club? If so, what did you like and what did you not like?

Regarding the email asking what we didn't like about book clubs: for me it's when we're assigned a passage or chapter(s)… and half the book club didn't read the assignment. I'm guilt of this myself. Like that one time when you (John) hosted a book club on Revolt of the Masses. I bought it… didn't read it… tho you did mention in an email it was boring so that didn't inspire me much… and when I showed up I had nothing to contribute and nothing to think about. That's on me, but it lowers the experience of everyone else too. There are book clubs when I have read the assigned chapters… but half the club didn't, and would rather just attend to drink wine and chit-chat… Also fun but not why we're there. Well, that's why my friends and I started a Wine Party. (And when we hosted them… half the attendees didn't want wine lol.)

@John Bejakovic I don't either and I realized after I posted that I added nthing to the conversation!
Most overused marketing case study of all time?
I'm curious what comes to mind for you when I say "most overused marketing case study of all time"? Have you heard some instructive story about a business or a brand a million times from a million different people? If so, what is it? I'm fishing for an answer here. Let me know what yours is, and I will tell you what mine is.

@John Bejakovic I think the idea is it's the "most mailed" not necessarily the most "successful" — but I do think it was successful too. The legendary Denny Hatch talked with the circulation manager in 1991 about that letter, and we included it in the republished Secrets of Emotional Hot-Button Copywriting book earlier this year. Here's that conversation from 1991 (screenshot attached)

@John Bejakovic amazing line!
What to do with... all these emails?
I had an email writing training today for emails that influence, and man... going through the archive, I realized I've written some pretty decent emails! Like... I should be doing something with these emails. It's such a waste to just... have these collecting proverbial dust in the archives, you know? But do what exactly??? What do you guys do with your emails???

Organize them into different funnel folders (or ebook chapters) like: 3 different Welcome sequences, 2 Abandoned Cart sequences, 4 Join Webinar sequences, etc. Give one (of your choosing) away. Sell the rest to people who take the free offer. Upsell to a workshop where you explain the template psychology behind different funnels.
Cold outreach
Yesterday I sent out an email to my list, asking folks if they've tried getting clients via cold outreach. I got two classes of responses. Class 1: 1A. "Yes, I hate it. I hired an agency multiple times and every time I hated it." 1B. "So far, 17 days in, 70 prospects approached, 0 clients, countless menty b’s." 1C. "No, and wouldn’t ;)" Then there's class 2: 2A. "That is my primary method for getting clients." 2B. "Yes, John. Works very well for me. No fancy cold email stack. Just a 3-liner email with a very relevant problem that they'd wanna get rid of. Brings me every month $12K to $18K!" 2C. "I'm using cold outreach to get clients, and I'm doing very well with it. Personally, one of the best methods, especially if we are talking about cold email outreach." Quite the difference between Class 1 and Class 2. I'm curious, what has your experience with cold outreach been? Comment below. If we get enough comments, I'll share what my experiences with cold outreach have been. I'll tell you now, I've been in both classes above. If there's enough interest, I'll share what I think makes the difference. If there's not enough interest, as manifested by only a few people who reply to this, I'll just stuff this whole discussion back in the sock drawer.

I've only been in Class 1. I didn't find it particularly effective. I imagine I have rookie numbers though, and it's something I'd love to improve. Someone recently told me to reach out to 100 YouTube creators per day. But only those who's website looks like they need marketing help. I didn't find that realistic.
