@Margaret Burris Welcome 🤗
What you need to know
TAKING ACTION: ✅Share your two colorful fruits and/or veggies in the comments below! ✅Try forgoing any sugary drinks today and let me know how you do! As I’ve mentioned already this week, natural foods aren’t the enemy. In fact, did you know your brain actually needs sugar to survive? That’s right! The brain is the most energy-demanding organ and uses ½ of the sugar in your body for energy. But there’s one caveat—it needs natural sugar to survive. 🫐 Unfortunately, most people are not just overconsuming sugar, but they’re overconsuming processed sugar. I mean, let’s be real—people aren’t gaining unwanted fat and damaging their health because of too many blueberries… ⬇️ What You Need to Know ⬇️ In short, processed sugar hits your bloodstream fast, so your pancreas has to release a big surge of insulin to pull that sugar out of the blood. When that spike happens over and over, your cells start ignoring insulin, blood sugar stays higher than it should, and that makes fat loss harder, energy crashes more frequent, and long-term metabolic problems more likely. We’ll talk more about this throughout the month because overconsuming processed sugari is a big problem in our society. We’re also going to learn about the sneaky ways food manufacturers slip in sugars-in-disguise! Keep showing up. We have a lot of sweet information this month! (See what I did there? 😉 )

I missed the boat on this one . I had an out of town training. The other teachers assured me that the restaurant for lunch had a fantastic salad bar…but the only thing I could eat was the lettuce. 🤣 The salad bar was huge, but no fresh veggies except tomatoes (not on my protocol yet). I took olive oil with lemon with me. 🙌🏼 Mac & cheese, several pasta salads, 2 potato salads. Lots of pickled veggies and mushrooms from a can 😑 So I ordered grilled chicken to eat with the lettuce. But it made me sick! 🤢 Soon after eating my belly felt heavy and I got so sleepy. Just YUCKY feeling. I still felt yucky last night, so I had oatmeal with blueberries for supper. Warm and soothing.
Recipe Tuesday!
TAKING ACTION: ✅Read today’s post and post your pictures of your TWO fruits and/or veggies today in the comments! Let me know if you have any questions! ✅Check your pantry and chuck at least one item that contains processed sugar today! Happy Tuesday, friends! As I mentioned yesterday, we’re going to be talking about all things sugar this month—but before we get too far into it, let’s go ahead and cover the details of our monthly Color Challenge so you can get started! 🌈 As you know, our annual Sugar Detox is at the end of the month, but until then, I encourage you to slowly start reducing your processed sugar intake, which will reduce the frequency and severity of sugar spikes. I’m going to educate you on why this is important throughout the month. The first thing you need to know is that all sugar isn’t bad. In fact, your body needs sugar, but it doesn’t need it in the form of processed sugar. Instead, fruits and vegetables give you sugar packaged with fiber, water, and nutrients—so it enters your bloodstream more slowly than foods with processed sugars. The slower rise helps your body use the sugar for energy instead of sending insulin on a rollercoaster. 🎢 ⭐ To avoid overwhelm, our Color Challenge will start super simple this week and will change as we get further into the month. For this week’s Color Challenge, the goal is to consume at least TWO colorful fruits and/or veggies every day. This can be two fruits, two vegetables, or a combination of the two. We start today and end on Sunday. Please post your picture proof in the comments every day, and I will tally the totals on my end! Need a good starting place? Check out this easy and colorful Fall Vegetable recipe! ⬇️ Perfectly Roasted Fall Vegetables

Overconsuming Processed Sugar
TAKING ACTION: ✅Share your two colorful fruits and/or veggies in the comments below! Snap a picture with your phone! Easy peasy! ✅If you have a sweet craving today, grab a piece of dark chocolate and top it with a spoonful of sugar-free nut butter. Throw in a few berries, and you’re set! Yesterday, I introduced the Week One details of our Color Challenge. If you missed that post, please go back and review it so you can participate this week and this month! 🌈 With that said, it’s already the middle of the week—and that means we need to start learning about all things sugar if we’re going to successfully navigate the rest of the month. As I’ve already mentioned, not all sugar is bad. Natural sugar isn’t the problem. Natural sugar can be found in honey, pure maple syrup, dairy products, and you guessed it—fruits and vegetables. Health issues arise when we overconsume processed sugar/added sugars. These are the sugars that cause both physical and psychological cravings. Food manufacturers know this, and they know if you crave it, you’ll buy it. When you buy it, they make more money. The overall point is that not all sugars are created equal. We’re going to learn more about why in the days ahead! 💯

@Aleiah Barker I was looking up things to eat with pomegranate and saw them in a salad. Going to try that next! But I like them just alone.
