Trail Skating Moves
Hi! I started skating regularly a few months ago. I want to move from practicing in a parking lot to getting out on more trails, but I’m still a little hesitant. What moves/techniques would you recommend learning/improving before trail skating? Thanks in advance!!

I have a good amount of experience with outdoor skating... I would advise along with slight staggered stance that you get lower in your knees with any decline so you are stacking your body over your skates... your feet can get out from under you very quickly and the lower you are the less far from the ground if you do fall. Plow position is advised for controlling speed if you aren't ready to go backward with the toestop providing your speed control. Also block your face if you start to go down...your elbow pads are key to preventing a chipped tooth. Helmets do not protect your face/mouth! I survived a chipped front tooth from unexpected debris on a flat trail...

@Lacey Kostishack turn around early and control the roll all the way down... I have no tips other than pray hard if you are going to attempt it at speed
My vision of learning STL style
Seeing it come to fruition!! Traveled from Buffalo to Missouri to start learning this style. Right now I am at the new outdoor rink they opened for the community in Kansas City. I wasn’t going to put my skates on but it would be a shame not to

Learning Roller Derby
So…since April, I’ve started learning to play roller derby. 😳 This requires an entirely different set of skating skills. We train/practice for 2 hr a week. I’m learning new skating techniques, becoming really proficient and developing a community. The pictures are from our gathering at a skate park. My first time ever rolling over ramps and elevated, curvy structures…like skateboarders. It was an experience indeed. Skate parks force you to work on and master your balance, which makes you a much better skater on level surfaces.

1. Skate Culture and history of styles.. 2. How capitalism and the pandemic have affected the idea of community 3. Skills Practice as devotion rather than a discipline.
