Building Out a Successful Community for Me
1) Why you want to build a successful community? My want is multi-faceted and not in any particular order. I’d like to create steady income to get me off disability, to create financial freedom and independence, to help women when they need guidance more than ever, and to get my husband down to just one job then none. 2) What would having a profitable community change in your life? A profitable community would help create a stability financially and in daily life. It would take away the scramble from worry about what gets paid monthly or if we can afford emergency situations. 3) How much progress you have already made? I’ve finally created my community and now have near 30 members. I’m working on some modules and content that is geared towards there needs.

@Dusty Commons @Glenn Summers Following the same format as above: 1) Why you want to build a successful community? At the heart of my Christian faith is a genuine desire to help others, so during the Covid lockdown, I started a YT channel teaching English, as learning English can be the 'Golden Ticket' that lifts so many out of poverty. Building a successful community with payment options is the natural extension of that, as with more money, the more people I can help 🤷‍♀️ 2) What would having a profitable community change in your life? I guess mine is profitable - See above 👆 3) How much progress you have already made? I've spent a year learning about community and whilst I'm generating a monthly 4 figure income and have about 900 members (vanity metric, but a good optic😉), I'm only just starting to learn how to build. In my niche, it's not about providing more info/modules/courses through the classroom, it's building interactive apps that teach and having HT 1:1 courses at various levels for those that want to take it further.

@Dusty Commons Yes I have to use my God given talents and be guided the rest of the way.🙏 If you need help or just a sounding board for ideas feel free to reach out 🤗

There is no 'right time.' There is only time and what you choose to do with it. What are you starting this week? 👇

Just basic stuff at the moment. Niche research for content, app speed/improvements/ niche relevant app research.

Research first, then create, then I refine and then hopefully together we polish 🤷‍♀️
What’s your number? 👀
If your goal is to eventually go full-time with your Skool community, there’s one number I think you should know: 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙢𝙪𝙢 𝙖𝙢𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙙𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙢𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮 𝙢𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙝 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙩𝙤 𝙜𝙤 𝙛𝙪𝙡𝙡-𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙚. Not your dream income. The actual number where you could say, “Okay, if my community consistently makes this, I can do this full-time.” Work out everything it would need to cover: Your rent or mortgage. Food. Power. Internet. Phone. Transport. Insurance. Subscriptions. Skool. Any other software you need to run the business. Taxes you need to put aside. And all the other boring little expenses that keep life running. Then give yourself a bit of breathing room too. You probably don’t want your number to be so tight that one unexpected bill puts you in trouble. Once you know that number, your goal becomes a lot more real. If your number is $5,000/month and your community is $25/month, suddenly you know you’re working towards roughly 200 paying members. If it’s $3,000/month at $100/month, that’s roughly 30 members. That feels a lot more tangible than just saying, “I want my community to be successful.” So... 👇 What’s your number? If you don’t know yet, work it out today and drop it below. You might be surprised by how achievable it actually looks once you turn it into a number.

OK, I'll play 😁 Figure is approx $3k pm, but I look at it slightly differently as I'm not interested in full time (work life balance is the priority), so my target is to just teach one day a week and most months I hit the target through a combination of MMR & classroom. So yes, if you are good at your craft a 'full time' income is relatively easy, as long as you put in the work to build your reputation.

@Glenn Summers No clover, as only 10% of my income is through MRR, although that is increasing
Want a premium marketing image for your community?
One of the easiest ways to make your community look more established is to showcase it on a phone in a realistic lifestyle photo. Step 1: Go to Discovery, search for your community, and take a screenshot of your Group Card. Step 2: Upload your screenshot to ChatGPT and paste the prompt below. Step 3: Share your finished image in the comments below, then post it on your social media 👇 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗽𝘁 𝗜 𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝘁𝗚𝗣𝗧. "Generate a premium lifestyle photograph featuring the latest iPhone held naturally in one person's hand in a vertical (portrait) orientation. The phone should be the clear focal point while still showing a beautiful, aspirational background that matches the community's niche (for example, a gym for fitness, a workshop for woodworking, a beach for travel, a kitchen for cooking, etc.). Display the uploaded image perfectly on the iPhone screen. Use only the community group card section of the uploaded screenshot, including the cover image, community icon, community name, description, member count, and price. Do not display the browser, search bar, navigation, or any other parts of the screenshot. The screen should look completely authentic with realistic perspective, subtle reflections, accurate brightness, and crisp readability. Do not alter the uploaded group card other than cropping, scaling, and perspective adjustments needed to fit naturally on the phone screen. Use an uncased iPhone with a natural hand grip. The overall image should resemble a premium Apple-style marketing photo with soft natural lighting, realistic depth of field, and a clean, modern aesthetic." -- -- -- Quick tip: Before uploading your screenshot, crop it down so it only contains your community card (cover image, icon, name, description, member count, and price). The cleaner your screenshot, the better the final result. I'd love to see what you create. Post your image in the comments once you've made one! 🚀

@Glenn Summers what I did was make the core messages on my landscape cover image readable as a square - see attached.
I Need Your Honest Opinion
I’m thinking of getting a few OCL T-shirts made so I can start wearing them when I’m out and about, especially when I’m chatting with local businesses and people offline about starting their own online communities. The idea is that the shirt isn’t just “merch” or a logo slapped on a T-shirt. I want it to be something simple, clean, and curiosity-driven enough that someone might look at it and ask, “What does that mean?” The current design says: IDEAS. IMPACT. INCOME. with onlinecommunitylaunch.com underneath. My thinking is that it gives me an easy conversation starter. If someone asks about it, I can explain that OCL is about helping people turn what they know, what they’re good at, or what their business already does into an online community that brings people together. For local businesses, that might mean creating a community around their customers, clients, students, fans, or local audience. For individuals, it might mean building around a skill, hobby, experience, interest, or area of knowledge they already have. Then, instead of trying to explain everything on the shirt, I can just have a normal conversation and hand them a business card if they want to check it out. What do you think of the design? Does it feel like something that would make you curious enough to ask about it? And would you change anything before I get one printed?

I think it's a nice design, but I think wearing the Skool merch could be more effective. Just from wearing my Skool cap out and about, I've had loads of conversations and over the past 6 weeks had 4 x affiliate sign ups to Skool.

@Glenn Summers I get it and just try it. I would add though, I never give them a sign up link at the start, I offer support first, are they the right fit etc. My goal is to build a local community of supportive Skoolers not chasing the $....and it's working 😁
