A visit to Macleod Morass, Bairnsdale, Vic
A lovely morning with @Helen Banks having a wander around the Morass. This is the region I'm moving to in a couple of weeks! Well, if I manage to find a house anyway 😄 We were surprised to see a very relaxed female fox wandering around - not ideal, but what a beautiful creature they are. - Juvenile Tree Martin - Red-browed Finches - Juvenile Pied Stilt/Black-winged Stilt - Black-fronted Dotterel

NICE SHOTS.
Confused about ISO?
My latest blog goes over what ISO is and what it does - it's a fantastic tool for the bird photographer when used at the right time. https://www.flyingparrot.au/post/common-misconceptions-about-iso

Thanks Sonia, well explained.
Immature Male.
Immature Male Blue Wren. Taken in the 20th Feb 2026 at Tyers beach, there was a small area and there would have been 8 of them, both sexes. I do love these little birds.

Thanks Sarah, great small birds, unfortunately I only had my 85mm lens but zoomed up stil get the detail.

Certainly are quick, but worth perserveering.
Capturing Behaviour
It's always worth waiting just that little bit longer ... This was a bit of an average shot, the light was flat, the background wasn't clean, but I could see chips flying and kept hitting the shutter right after 'the chomp' into the Banksia cones so I could catch some mid-air action. Small actions add up to bigger story - and help to transform what would be an ordinary photo into something more.

Nice capture Sonia, we have had a lot of the yellow tails around here lately. Don't know about them being a sign of rain. No rain here for 4 weeks.
Surprise Sighting
I was excited to spot this juvenile Striated Heron by the river last week. I was sitting at the edge of the river waiting for Kingfishers (I'd heard some nearby) when this guy stopped briefly and I managed a couple of shots. Never seen one before, quite lovely patterns.
