Hey Y’all, just thought I’d share with you this little video of the pallet Cob classroom I worked on in Florida. You can see how we built it on a deck rather than on the ground in order to keep all the insects and wildlife around intact.

I just thought I’d share this little video on how I am applying an earthen plaster on an existing Cob wall. When it dries, I’ll probably do a clay paint with 40 parts flour paste, 30 parts very fine sand and 30 parts clay with an oxide added to give the Plaster extra water protection. I’m doing this work now at the Cob Cottage company in Oregon . There will be many cobbortunities here if anybody wants to come help, although I don’t know if anybody in our group lives in Oregon. It’s an amazing place with a whole bunch of little Cob Huts built over the years during various workshops.

I was working on building a Cob Oven today here in Oregon at the Cob Cottage Company and thought I would share with you the process. I mentioned the insulation…It’s also possible to make an insulation mixture with Clay and lots of straw packed tightly or lover rock mixed with Clay, or sawdust mixed with Clayif you don’t have access to perlite. I like using the pear light though because it forms together into a ball and stays pretty compact when putting it over the thermal mass layer. We will probably take out the sand mold tomorrow and get a few little fires going in the oven to dry it out before putting the insulation layer on. It’s very important to make a very dense cob mix of up to 80% Sand 20 % with not very much water so that it forms together into a ball and won’t slump when putting it on the oven this will also help to keep the oven from cracking. If your Oven does crack though, when you fire it up, don’t be too alarmed. it can easily be patched up.. It does help in the curing process to have the Oven dry slowly so small little curing fires are better than big raging fires for the curing process.

Hello everyone! We have a farm in SE Ohio, and we are starting an on-site sauna healing retreat center. I am an acupuncturist and herbalist, so of course there will be lots of classes and treatments as well. Here is a pic of our little garden and propagation area. We made everything ourselves (except for the ancient barn). It was just grass when we moved here a few years ago. Anyways, looking forward to building some cobin saunas and sharing the journey here!
