Everyone Got the Claude Watermark Wrong
This is the first of many things that came of this weekend's research run and using my Claude time for the week in two days! Close to 4000 emails were analyzed, combined organized and what came of it is 4 books, 24 articles and a possible future class for sale. This is the article that created the Provenance Assurance Layer in WCP. ***** In August, one of the largest online-writing schools told its list that Anthropic's new watermarking would punish lazy writers and reward everyone else. Copy and paste straight from Claude, you get marked. Use AI the smart way, for brainstorming and remixing and expanding your own drafts, and you're fine. It's a comforting argument. It's also wrong, and it's wrong in a way that matters if you write books. I wrote a first version of this correction the week the announcement landed, and I got half of it right. This is the version with the other half in it. What happened in August On 11 August 2026, Anthropic confirmed it would embed machine-readable marks in content Claude generates or processes. Text carries an imperceptible watermark. Files carry signed provenance metadata using the C2PA standard. Almost nobody covering this mentioned why it happened. Compliance drove it. Article 50 of the EU AI Act obliges providers to mark synthetic content in a machine-readable format, and those transparency obligations took effect on 2 August 2026. Anthropic signed the associated Code of Practice in July, alongside roughly 190 other signatories. Behind Article 50 sit fines of up to 15 million euros or 3 percent of worldwide turnover. That distinction matters, because a company acting on principle can change its mind. A company acting on regulation cannot, and every other major provider carries the same obligation. Models launched on or after 2 August support marking at launch, and as of early September the two Anthropic names in that group are both from its 5.1 generation. Older models sit in a transition period with 2 December 2026 attached to it. That date comes from the AI Omnibus provisional agreement reached in May 2026, which gives generative systems already on the market before 2 August until then to meet the machine-readable marking requirement. It's a grace period with a statute behind it, not a deadline someone picked.

Let's take another hypothetical. An AI is used to build the world, the characters, and more, all in collaboration with an author. I suspect none of that contributes to a document that uses those starter materials, but is completely built by the author. Right? I mean, unless you copy-paste (and thus get the watermark across to the document), how could it? So in theory, the whole 'issue' begins with drafting of prose. An author collaborates with Claude, and about 80% of the words in the draft came from Claude. So it's all watermarked. Then Claude is used with some sort of editing pipeline (WCP, home-brew, whatever). More/different watermark. Then the author hand-edits, changing a lot of the words, sentences, patterns. How would provenance work then? Curious...

@Michael Culp I read through the tech papers on how the original Google system worked, and how Anthropic adopted/modified the process; as far as they have disclosed, I mean. It's a subtle process, deeply embedded in the statistics of the latent space, so humans won't ever understand it outside of an LLM that can read it. Anthropic says they'll have a 'reader' available, likely for cost, to individuals who want to 'check' other documents. Maybe this is just the stinkbug approach we need! I doubt analyzers like Pangram will be able to find these deep, subtle patterns. And having to pay to check someone else's work may shut down a lot of the haters. (Or not; haters gotta hate, after all.) I'll continue on the way I have, collaborating strongly with my 'silicon-based ghostwriter.' I still think the witch hunt has to fail under its own weight, sooner or later...
Backwards Compositional Genre
So this started as the Pen names video and became about compositional genre's. Found an embarrassing self-inflicted bug that i had tio pause to fix, and it really was me not reading the list properly because I was in a hurry going off on a tangent. What I did in this video was flip the script. I started with a story bible from an earlier version of the Professional Writing system before I wrote WCP and used the story bible to create the compositional genre instead of the other way around. For technical reasons users do not yet have the ability to do this, but it is coming soon.

I just tried my hand at a hard SF story collection that is built in a compositional form: An elegiac descent across space and time. Read one way, it's a compound tragedy. Read another, it celebrates the best that humanity has to offer...

@Michael Culp Well, I hope it is. It's only been 31 years in the making, so it's practically a newbie. 😮 Advance Reader feedback is generally quite good...
Workflow Wednesday
Starting a Book in WordCrafter.pro, Start to First Draft Signing in, making somewhere to put it, the pen name, the genre, the idea, and the rooms between a spark and a manuscript. Part one of two — revision is next week. --- Last time I went spelunking in the series tools and came out slightly annoyed at how much of them I hadn't been using. This week I did the same thing to the front of the pipeline: the stretch between "I have an idea" and "I have a draft." Same result, different flavour. The tools aren't the problem. The problem is that nobody tells you what order to touch them in, so most people either skip the setup and pay for it in book three, or spend a week building scaffolding for a book they were never going to write. So this is the order I'd do it in, with the reasoning for each step rather than just the clicks. Some of it is five seconds of work that saves you a fortnight later. Some of it you can genuinely skip. One structural note before we start: the rail changed. Your plugin tools used to have seven separate icons in the left rail. They're now behind a single 🧩 puzzle piece. Click it and you get a list — each tool by name with a line explaining what it does, instead of seven glyphs you had to decode. The list shows more than you own, deliberately: tools your plan doesn't include appear dimmed with the tier that unlocks them, anything still being built shows as Soon, and anything you've switched off in Settings shows there too. So a tool never silently vanishes on you. That's the only place in the app that names every extra plugin tool in one view, which makes it a decent map when you're new. --- Step 0 — Get in, and make somewhere to put the book This is the step every walkthrough assumes you've already done, which is exactly why it's worth doing slowly once. Signing in Go to wordcrafter.pro and sign in. Three ways in, and they all land in the same place: - Email and password — the ordinary one. - Continue with Google — one click, no password to lose.

This is very fine. I'm just about clear of my chores and other writing work. I should be ready to jump in here with a book concept and see what happens. Taxes first, though; ugh...
I have a favor to aak of someone with publisher rocket
Subject: Small favour — five Publisher Rocket exports (~15 min) Hi — you have Publisher Rocket and I don't. Could you run five searches and send me the exports? Roughly fifteen minutes. Fill these in before sending: - Genre/niche: [cozy mystery] - A phrase describing the book: [small town cozy mystery with a bakery] - One or two comparable book ASINs: [B0GX32H4KV or B0H6LV7XLQ] - Each module in Rocket has an Export button once results load — that's all I need. Excel or CSV, whichever it gives you. Don't tidy or filter anything; raw is better. 1. Category Search ← most important; if you only do one, do this Search [cozy mystery]. Export the full result list. I specifically need the columns showing how many sales per day it takes to reach #1, and any flags Rocket puts on categories that are duplicates or "ghost" categories 2. Keyword Search Enter [cozy mystery] as the seed, let it finish, export everything it returns. 3. AMS Keyword Search Enter [small town cozy mystery with a bakery] run it, export the whole list. This one usually returns hundreds of rows — that's expected, send it all. 4. Reverse ASIN Enter [B0GX32H4KV]. Export. Please only do one or two — I understand this is capped at 50 lookups a month and I don't want to spend your allowance. 5. Competition Analyzer Enter [cozy mystery] as the keyword. Export the front-page results. Before you send: glance at the top and bottom of each file and delete anything with your account email, licence key or username. I only need the market data, not anything tied to your account. If a module looks different from the above or an export button isn't where I described, just send what you can get and say which one it was — a screenshot of the results table works too. Partial is genuinely fine. Thanks — this saves me buying a license to answer one question.
