Nice show of the exploration process on the fretboard. With more study, the interweave if harmony and theory unveils itself more and more. Though not a unique bit of theory, Pat would have students take the full diminished chord, drop any of the notes a half-step and that generates the 7th (sort of flipping the view of the 7b9). It was a way of generating all your primary 7ths every third fret up out of the diminished. Of course, this could be only one of many rabbit holes to follow…

Hey Gary, thanks for comment. I am playing thru Focusrite interface, into Logic Pro with an amplitube amp, either Fender Deluxe or Roland Jazz Chorus. with maybe a bit of reverb on aux channel. Then I just play iReal and track along with it live into my room out of studio monitors and record the whole thing on my iPad set on video. In this example I used Sennheiser binaurals on a set of ears to try and capture a little better room sound. Once set up it's not too hard to plug and play, but not sure all the extra effort is worth it!! I tried working with OBS, the open broadcast software, but got very frustrated trying to get all the audio to work together with Loopback and such. Had latency issues, or feedback or just plain silence. But others have gotten this to work. May be easier also on more recent OS than I have (12.7 highest for my Mac) This definitely may be TMI, but also a chance to VENT a bit! 🤪🤣

@Mentor Bob Kinney Hey Bob thanks for comments! Having gone thru major back issues, R thumb arthritis and L index trigger finger, I’m both more sensitive to even normal playing and want to be sensitive to any aberrations in technical form, stuff that I would have ignored even five years ago. Gone are the Rock and Roll days of jumping off my amp, Pete Townsend style! (Really only about 2 feet!) So per comments, repositioning the guitar a bit and developing more left hand mgmt from the right elbow and less from the wrist. I really appreciated Marc’s “gravity” comment - let the arm drop to a degree.

Thanks for all the great comments and critiques. Thinking about ways to infuse the improv with some of the rhythmic and harmonic ideas mentioned is quite helpful. That would definitely be a level up in approaching the fretboard beyond the anxiety of just getting the notes I want or hear. Happy holidays to all and to all a good chorus or two!🎅🏼
