Sunday funday? What are you up to?
It’s a gig for me this afternoon, after hanging out with my son in the sun and eating ice lollies. Anyone using their Sunday to get some practice in or are you just hanging? Let us all know in the comments!

I've got church this morning and work this afternoon until 6, but after that it's prep for a gig on Tuesday 👌🎶
Lick Of The Week!
Post one of the following on this thread. 1. The line just as it is 2. The line in a few different keys 3. The line played inside an improvisation over any tune you like. (It works best over a major chord) Look forward to seeing your version!

Day 3 of the 5 Day Challenge-Chord Tone Motifs
Comment “day 3” on this post to keep up your streak! Use this thread to post your progress videos and ask any questions you have about the challenge. Well done for making it to day 3! Today is all about creating small two note motifs from the chord tones and using them to improvise with. It’s an exercise that I think anyone at any level can learn from. Forcing yourself to stay simple can help you find inspiration a lot easier than a blank canvas. Looking forward to your videos!

Thanks! This time it was easy cause I already had a framework of simplified chords laid out for me, but in other contexts how do you know which chords can be simplified and what chords to assume over them instead?

@Matt Holborn Yeah, would you just assume the I over it instead then?
Day 4 of the 5 Day Challenge-Language
Comment “day 4” on this post to keep up your streak! Use this thread to ask any questions and post your progress video! Hopefully by now you are starting to see two things; How a jazz musician thinks and practises. The benefits of showing up for yourself regularly and practising something new! Today is all about “jazz language” and how we use pre prescribed melodic material inside an improvisation. Enjoy!

It was really fun putting all the little parts together for this one! The real challenge is can I apply these concepts to a different tune… will see if I can post an update video of that later today too if I get a chance!

@Otis Ragen-Andrews This is great! So excited to hear what you come up with for the last exercise!
Day 2 of the 5 Day Challenge - The Major Scale
Comment “Day 2” on this post to keep your streak! Congrats for making it to day 2! Progress starts with consistency. Little and often is the best way to learn anything new! Today is about trial and error with the sounds of the major scale over the A section of “Lady Be Good”. You will be improvising with rhythm and using your ear to see what sounds good to you. Get to the classroom and start the video, show us what you come up with by posting a progress video on this post or use this thread to ask any questions you have about the challenge today. Happy practising!

Day 2! (Pardon the state of my hair, I just showered but this was going to be my only chance to film today 😂) Take away from todays exercise… rhythmic variety is tricky!🤣
